Schweitzer Mountain Lodging

The Schweitzer Village is very peaceful and staying on-mountain is well suited to families who want the convenience of slope-side lodging, and don’t need a big party scene.

The Schweitzer Village is currently very small, and the main part of the village consists of only a handful of dining and drinking establishments, a few shops, and the ski resort facilities such as ski rentals. Whilst there are various private vacation homes and condos, there are only two main options for visitors looking for lodging on-mountain at Schweitzer.

The Selkirk Lodge provides suites and hotel style accommodations at Schweitzer. It’s very conveniently located in the heart of the village, and it’s pretty much ski-in ski-out with a 30 second skate to get to the ticket office and lifts. Of the 77 rooms at the Selkirk Lodge, most provide mountain or village views. The hotel rooms come in a variety of configurations and many rooms are self-contained with a kitchenette that includes a microwave, fridge and sink. Family suites comfortably sleep five.

The Selkirk Lodge hotel has a heated swimming pool and hot tubs, a fitness room, a ski locker room, heated underground parking, wireless internet access, an on-site day spa, café, and restaurant. A very good hot and continental breakfast buffet is included in the rates. See the Selkirk Lodge page for more information and bookings.

The White Pine Lodge is a condominium complex located opposite Selkirk Lodge, so it’s also incredibly conveniently located. This is an upscale property with a delightful fit out and furnishings. Each of the condos feature full kitchens, lounge room with fireplace, laundry facilities and balconies. Amenities include heated underground parking, wireless internet, a fitness centre, outdoor hot tubs, access to the Selkirk Lodge outdoor pool, and an on-site café. See the White Pine Lodge page for more information and bookings.

Sandpoint Hotels

Some visitors choose to stay in the town of Sandpoint, 12 miles away from Schweitzer Ski Resort. The town sits on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille and it’s rather sedate, although relative to the Schweitzer Village, it’s rather happening! The advantage of staying in downtown Sandpoint is that there are more options for restaurants and nightlife. The lodging in Sandpoint is also much more economical than that on-mountain.

La Quinta is centrally located and provides decent quality accommodations.

The Lodge at Sandpoint is located on the waterfront of Lake Pend Oreille, across the bridge from downtown Sandpoint.

Ponderay Hotels

The town of Ponderay is 2 miles north of Sandpoint. The little community has a population of about 1,000 and there’s not too much to the town other than some big shops such as Wal-mart. However staying in Ponderay has the distinct advantage of being closer than Sandpoint to the turn-off to Schweitzer. Ponderay is also home to some good value chain hotels.

The Holiday Inn Express & Suites is situated in an ideal location if you’ve got a car, right near the road to Schweitzer. The hotel is reasonably priced considering the quality of accommodation and includes large hotel rooms, a big breakfast, and various facilities.

The Days Inn Sandpoint is a very economical hotel option whilst still providing a decent standard of accommodation. This Ponderay hotel is also located near the turn-off to Schweitzer, but don’t expect a picturesque outlook because it’s located opposite the Bonner Mall!
