Oberstdorf Ski Region Germany

Oberstdorf ski region combines the German ski resorts of Nebelhorn, Fellhorn & Söllereck, with Austria's Kleinwalsertal skiing areas, for stellar, snow-laden freeride skiing over a huge region. Nebelhorn (translates to Foghorn in English) has one of Germany's longest ski runs (7.5km) on a massive skiable vertical of 1,400m. Pistes aside, the real reason to visit is for the powder that arrives with winter storms. The region is known for deep snow-packs in the alpine zone & powder-hunting freeriders should take note!

The total Oberstdorf - Kleinwalsertal ski region has over 130km of pistes all under the one lift pass, with all the disparate areas linked by free local ski buses. The highest lifted point is in the German sector on the summit of Nebelhorn at 2,224m. The highest lifted point in the Austrian sector is at Ifen where the top lift goes to a relatively uninspiring altitude of 2,030m altitude; but it is more than enough to attract a lot of snow in this region. Where is Oberstdorf Germany?

The ski region's major town (& namesake) is Oberstdorf, where the Nebelhorn ski lifts extend up from the city limits. The town is a major transport hub located very close to Austrian border in southern Germany. Oberstdorf can be accessed from Munich (MUC) airport It is possible to take a train from Munich (MUC) international airport and be the centre of Oberstdorf in as little as 3¼hr. From Zurich (ZRH) airport in Switzerland, Oberstdorf can be reached by train in a little over 3hr (depending on connections). From Innsbruck the best way to get to Oberstdorf is by rental car via Reutte, with a journey time of under 2½hr.

Whilst the Kleinwalsertal sector of the ski region is part of the Austrian Vorarlberg state, there is no road or public transport access from greater Austria at any time of the year, let alone during the ski season. All access is via Oberstdorf Germany.
