Bivio Ski Resort Switzerland
Bivio is a small, relatively remote Swiss ski resort on the road between Lenzerheide and St Moritz, and very close to a Powderhounds’ favourite, the hugely under-rated Savognin. Bivio has vast freeride & ski touring opportunities making it perfect for those Powderhounds looking for somewhere away from the glitz of St Moritz. On a powder day when the Julier Pass road to St Moritz is closed, check out Bivio.
Skiing & Snowboarding, Lift & Terrain
Bivio comes with over 30km of piste trails across its wide-open, rolling alpine terrain. The resort’s northerly aspect provides cold, delicious snow & relatively few people riding it. The lift system is dated but that’s why it is still a cool place to visit! Bivio’s long surface tows will test the fortitude of those gone soft riding on hooded 6-seater chairs with heated seats designed by Porsche at other resorts. Take the pain. Enjoy the simplicity & solitude by combining the lifted terrain with a ski tour out & about. The local bus system can be used to get back to the resort.
Check out the ski trail map for Bivio below.
The ski lifts will get you up to a respectable elevation of 2,560m, nearly 800m vertical above Bivio village. From there the ski touring options to nearby peaks is impressive. Freeride descents of over 1,000m vertical can then ensue. Exiting the descents is usually simple. For example, the valley exit from Stallerberg, Piz Soparè & Piz Scalotta ends at the Bivio Stalvedro bus stop which is only 2km down the road from the village. Waiting for a bus or skinning/walking/car shuttle are all easy options.

Where is Bivio Switzerland?
Bivio is deep in the heart of Graubünden, southwest Switzerland 65km (1hr) by road south of Chur. The ski resort (& larger town) of Savognin is 18km to the north of Bivio & St Moritz is 20km to the east, via the 2,284m Julier Pass. The gateway airport to the area is Zurich (ZRH), 188km (2½ to 3 hr) by road to the north.
From Zurich airport, trains run regularly direct to the major transport hub of Chur. From the station, the route 182 Postbus goes to Bivio in under 2hr via Lenzerheide, Tiefencastel & Savognin, before heading all the way to St Moritz. The nearest train station is Tiefencastel (Albula), 50min on the route 182 bus to the north, but whether it is a better option than taking the bus from Chur depends on connections. Search & book train tickets to Chur or Tiefencastel.
A car rental or airport transfer provide more time efficient modes of travel to Bivio, but unless you are on a ski safari, when in Switzerland we always say, take the train & bus!
Bivio Accommodation
Bivio is a small village with only a few accommodation options. If local hotels & guesthouses are full, the best option is to look further north toward Savognin & Albula rather than south to St Moritz. If you have your own transport, Bivio can be skied as an easy day trip from Chur.
