Off Mountain Accommodation for Mt Buller

At the base of the mountain is the little village of Merrijig, which is about 40-45 minutes drive from Mt Buller. Merrijig accommodation includes a motel, bed and breakfast establishments and holiday houses. Merrijig is very quiet and has a pub, ski hire shop, restaurant, café, convenience store and that’s about it. Sawmill is a settlement near Merrijig that’s about 5 minutes closer to Mt Buller than Merrijig. Further from Mt Buller is the town of Mansfield that offers pub accommodation and other lodging, and has a fraction more action than Merrijig and Sawmill.

A major pro of off-mountain Mt Buller accommodation is that it’s more affordable and you can also save costs on overnight parking, over-snow taxis and potentially not have to hire wheel chains. The obvious con is the need to commute to Mt Buller each day.

On-Mountain Accommodation Mount Buller

Mount Buller accommodation on-mountain includes ski-in ski-out options that have the ultimate convenience of being able to slide out onto the main Bourke Street run. Other Mount Buller accommodation is within easy walking distance of the slopes or there is a free shuttle service that operates around the Mt Buller Alpine Village. Some of the Mt Buller hotels have self-contained apartments as well as hotel rooms, there are lots of Mt Buller lodges operated by ski clubs, and other Mt Buller accommodation includes chalets and houses.

The pros of staying on-mountain include the beauty of being surrounded by snow during winter, easy access to the slopes of the Mt Buller Ski Resort, and being able to walk to the many great restaurants and bars.
