Appi Restaurants
There is a large range of high quality Appi Resort restaurants for evening dining and they all have English menus so you won’t be left pointing at food models. For those staying in Appi slopeside hotels, restaurant meals can be purchased separately or can be included in accommodation packages.
At the Crowne Resort Plaza Hotel there are five restaurants: Japanese; Chinese; Korean BBQ; steak and seafood; and a buffet restaurant with a variety of cuisines (which is also fabulous for breakfast and lunch).
A highlight of the Crowne Plaza dining is Nanashigure, the Japanese restaurant. Here they serve a large range of superb cuisine in a restaurant setting or in private dining rooms. It’s possible to order set meals or a la carte.
The other Appi slope side hotels also have various restaurants which tend to be a little less expensive than those at the Crowne Plaza but are still somewhat pricy.
If you’re staying at one of the inns or pensions in the Appi pension village, meals can be included as part of a half board package, or you can pay as you go (but meals generally need to be pre-booked). Some of the pensions such as the
Appi Rocky Inn open up their restaurant and bar to non-guests as well.
There are a few other dining options in the Appi Kogen Pension Village. Pashupati Indian Restaurant serves up some decent curries. They used to have a restaurant up at the ski resort, but now just have a food stand, so the pension village restaurant is a great opportunity to get a good Indian feed.
Further down the road in the pension village is Menkoi Udon, which sits on the ground floor of a staff accommodation building so it’s popular with staff. This eatery offers very basic food and décor, and it’s OK for a cheap feed out of a ticket machine if you don’t mind a TV blaring with Japanese game shows in the background and numbers being yelled out.

Appi Kogen Bars & Nightlife
The nightlife is fairly sedate at Appi Ski Resort, which is pretty usual for a Japanese ski resort. The resort organises live music on some nights in an effort to make the nightlife more vibrant, but I’m not sure if they succeed!
The resort tries to encourage some apres ‘appiness at the Brisa Cafe with happy hour discounts on beers and cocktails from 4:00-6pm. The Hotel Crowne Plaza has one bar that opens after dinner, but there is some potential that the bar may be deserted if you don’t take your own crew. It seems apt whilst in Japan to get into the culture of karaoke, and the cheesier the song the better! For a small fee you can book out the karaoke box if you have a small group, or if you really want to party on you can book out the large karaoke room.
Ollie’s Follie Bar at the White Rose Inn in the pension village is a cosy bar that’s frequented by westerners and is popular with the English speaking ski instructors. This cute little bar opens at 7pm and you can get a simple feed. The pizza in particular is surprisingly great!

Another bar in the pension village can be found at Yamagoya Base Camp, a hostel that’s popular with Japanese and international visitors.
Hachimantai Restaurants
It’s also possible to head into the town of Hachimantai for dinner at one of the many authentic Japanese restaurants.
