Driving to Kicking Horse
Self-drive is the most common mode of transport to Kicking Horse, particularly if you want to take in other Powder Highway ski resorts, or stay off the hill in Golden.

Car rentals are available at Calgary Airport (or Kelowna Airport). From Calgary, take the Trans Canada Highway 1 westbound from Calgary for approximately 2.5 hours. The drive between Lake Louise and Golden through the Yoho National Park is particularly spectacular. Once you reach the town of Golden there’s a turnoff to the resort, and Kicking Horse is 14km up the mountain.

Tours That Include Kicking Horse
There are various hosted and guided Canada ski/snowboard trips that include Kicking Horse, where you can relax in the van and let someone else drive you. Check out the Canada ski tours page and you can use the filters in the left hand column to select “Kicking Horse”.

Getting Around

If you’re staying in Golden, you’ll want to have a car, otherwise you’ll be desperately using ride-share apps to get a lift.

If you’re staying at Kicking Horse Resort lodging, it’s pretty easy to get around. Most of the lodging is within easy walking distance of the few restaurants, but you’ll probably want to wear snow boots and not your stilettos (this is not one of those ritzy ski villages with heated pavements).
