Where is Copper Mountain CO?

Copper Mountain is located in Summit County, Colorado, 1.5 hours drive west of Denver just off the I70 interstate highway. Whilst it’s rather unique (aka strange!) to have a ski resort right next to a major highway, once in the village you don’t notice the I-70 and it doesn’t affect the ambience of the resort.

The town of Frisco is a 5 minute drive away, and the town of Silverthorne is about 10-15 minutes away.

Other Ski Resorts Nearby

Copper Mountain is in the heart of Colorado ski country and is surrounded by the ‘opposition’. To the east are the ‘Vail Resorts’ of Breckenridge (30 mins away) and Keystone Ski Resort (20 mins away). In the opposite direction along the I70 are Vail (20 mins away) and Beaver Creek (50 mins away). Arapahoe Basin is also close by (30 mins).

Travel to Copper Mountain

By air:

Denver is the closest major airline hub, approximately 1:45 hours away. Flights into the city are numerous. Eagle County Regional Airport (Vail) is another option if you want to avoid flying into big American cities. This is located closer to Copper (55 minutes away), but on the other side of Vail Pass. It is a smaller airport with less frequent flights, and fewer rental car and transport options. To make searching for flights to Denver or Eagle Vail easier, use one of the recommended flight search engines that can compare flight options from multiple airlines.

Driving to Copper Mountain:

Driving to Copper Mountain CO from the airports by rental car is simple via the I70, although drive times are somewhat variable depending on traffic and road conditions. Take the CO-91 SOUTH exit towards Copper Mountain / Leadville, exit #195 and you’re at Copper.

Car rentals are available at both airports. If doing a bit of car touring we recommend getting a 4WD. If renting a vehicle from Eagle County Regional Airport, make an advanced reservation as supply can be limited. You can use one of our car rental search engines to find a good deal and make a reservation.

If you’re just staying at Copper Mountain and not travelling around to other parts of Colorado, you’re probably better off getting shuttle transport to Copper rather than driving, because once there you won’t need a car.

Parking is provided for overnight guests. Day trippers can utilise the free day parking on the outskirts of the resort. These parking lots require a free shuttle bus to get to the village, and then a short walk to get to the slopes. Alternatively there is paid parking available closer to the slopes.

Denver to Copper Mountain Shuttle:

There are a multitude of transport operators providing Eagle airport or Denver to Copper Mountain shuttles or private transport. If you don’t intend to rent a car and you are with a group of people, the most economical way to get there is with one of the private limo services. These private operators have drivers providing transport in all sorts of vehicles from sedans, vans and fully stretched limos. It’s a great way to guarantee transport from Eagle County Airport and it saves waiting for buses.

Getting Around Summit County

If you don’t have your own wheels, Summit County runs an effective and free shuttle service to and from all the main resort towns and points of interest around Copper. Called the Summit Stage, it runs every 30 minutes during busy periods and may be a transport option if staying off the mountain.

Getting Around Copper Mountain

Even though the base area of Copper Mountain is split into three parts (East Village, Center Village and Union Creek), it is not huge by any stretch of the imagination. Regardless, an efficient free bus shuttle service, the Copper Inter-Village Shuttle, runs continuously to transport guests between the various parts of the resort. Five other free shuttles run express from the main day parking lots to points across the resort.

Another in-resort service is the Copper Coach Dial-a-Ride Service which provides free transport to your room, restaurant or nightspot from 8:30am to 11pm.
