Fabulous Location

Views up Front Valley
Aesthetically the Perisher Valley Hotel was not a modern or fancy hotel. The reception area and restaurant/bar had some beautiful stonework and traditional alpine décor, whilst our room was of a classic era with nothing too elaborate, except of course for the slopeside views. The luxury of staying at this hotel came from the prime location and sheer convenience of popping out the door and being right in the main hub of the ski resort. This would be especially handy if you had small children in tow. In the evening we wandered around some of the lodging areas on the other side of the creek and realised people staying there would have a big trudge at the start and end of a ski day. We were mighty thankful to be staying at the PVH.

We stayed in a family room which was incredibly spacious and it looked out across the ski resort where the kids were having ski lessons. It was lovely sitting in the armchair catching up on a spot of work whilst looking up Front Valley. It was also rather decadent lying on the bed whilst watching people outside skiing and snowboarding. The king bed was reasonably comfortable and we had good sleeps, although the windows weren’t soundproof so there was a little bit of noise from the snowcats out grooming the slopes at night. We’ve stayed at a lot of ski resort hotels, and the snowcats at Perisher were far preferable to the racket that we’ve heard elsewhere from snow clearers scraping the road or a car park, or the boom of avalanche explosives going off in the wee hours (although that is sort of nice because it means it’s a powder day).

The restaurant was a lovely spot for breakfast. The décor was in keeping with the alpine theme, and the floor to ceiling windows provided great views up the mountain. Options for breakfast were extensive, and the made-to-order coffee was welcomed.

It was early in the season so the restaurant wasn’t open for dinner but the staff were very helpful with suggestions for other evening dining options at Perisher Valley. Overall, the staff service was very impressive, from the porter who helped transport us and our gear to the hotel, the restaurant staff, and the very friendly reception staff who helped with locks for skis and other advice.

We’d highly recommend a stay at the Perisher Valley Hotel, that’s of course if you can book early, because a room at PVH is usually in hot demand.
