The central hub of the village at Fernie Alpine Resort is only small, and most of the ski resort services and facilities are located around this area. A few of the accommodations also contain some facilities for skiers and snowboarders.
Fernie Ski Rentals
The Fernie Resort rental shop is located in the base area of Fernie Alpine Resort, renting out standard and high performance ski and snowboard equipment. The resort shop also rents out snowshoes, cross-country skis, telemark skis, and winter fat bikes.
There is also a ski and snowboard rental shop at the Lizard Creek Lodge. The shop is tiny, but they pack in plenty of mid range and performance gear, including a range of fat skis and cross-country ski equipment.
There are a variety of Fernie ski rental shops in town, along with a few specific snowboard shops.
If you’re looking to rent backcountry gear, try GearHub Sports (401 1st Ave) which offers touring skis, snowshoes and collapsible poles, and avalanche safety equipment.
Facilities for Children
The resort offers childcare in the Cornerstone Lodge with half day or full day programs for children aged 18 months to 6 years. The resort may be able to help with a nanny service for babies not eligible to attend child care. Rates for child care are very reasonable.
Ski and play programs are available for 3-5 year olds, and the resort also has a kids après program. In addition to this, the resort runs kids’ activities from 6-9pm a couple of nights per week – a great opportunity for Mum and Dad to have some alone time.
Eating On Mountain
The Lost Boys Café is located at the top of Timber Bowl chair. The views from the big deck are spectacular, but it’s mainly just good for hot beverages as the food options are very limited. Another on-mountain pit-stop is the Bear’s Den at the top of Elk chair.
Alternatively return to the ski area base where there are a variety of options for food and drinks.
Griz Day Lodge may a lack some charm, but it’s good for a classic cafeteria feed.
Legend’s Mountain Eatery at the Cornerstone Lodge offers pub style fare, or wander over to the Rusty Edge Restaurant at the Griz Inn.
Cirque Restaurant and Bar at the Lizard Creek Lodge is the spot to go for a glam lunch. The mountain views via the massive windows are a highlight. The menu is also a nice way to spoil yourself and get away from the burger options of the other eateries.
Other Information
Fernie is on Mountain Standard Time, the same time as Calgary.
