The base area of the Castle Mountain Resort is reasonably small but it houses adequate ski resort facilities and services, considering that it’s not an overly busy resort. If you plan to visit on weekdays, it worth double checking which services are operating as various amenities only function on weekends and holidays.
Facilities for Children
Child care is available at Castle Mountain for ages 18 months and up, although capacity is very limited and it’s only available on weekends and holidays. Semi private ski lessons can be combined with child care. Advanced bookings are recommended.
There aren’t many organised activities for children to do outside of skiing and snowboarding.
Castle Ski and Snowboard School
For 3-5 year olds, semi private ski lessons are available, whilst more typical ski and snowboard group lessons are available for ages 6-12. Typically the kids lessons are only available on weekends and holidays.
For adults, group and private lessons are available any day of the week. The snowsports school provides good value for money, although the first timer and 2nd timer packages that incorporate a lesson, rental equipment and beginner lift pass are very very inexpensive.
For more advanced riders, big mountain and performance clinics are conducted on Saturdays and holidays.
Ski and Snowboard Rental
Castle Mountain has a large range of very inexpensive rental equipment including downhill skis, snowboards, boots, cross country equipment, and snowshoes.
For demo equipment including fat skis, you can rent these from the Alpenland Retail Store. The pro shop also takes care of basic equipment tuning and waxing requirements.
Retail Shop
The ski shop sells a small range of skis, other hardwear, and some outerwear, and a larger range of accessories such as goggles, gloves, beanies and neck gaitors.
If you need any other supplies, there is a small general store in Beaver Mines (27km away) or other shops in Pincher Creek (46km away).
Eating On Mountain
The day lodge has a cafeteria, which serves up breakfast, lunch and snacks. Most items are from the grill or fryer and there are also a few options that are a little healthier. The food is cooked fresh, but the kitchen doesn’t have a lot of capacity so you could be waiting a while on busy days.
Also in the day lodge is Joe’s Café (open weekends only), serving up coffee, pastries and simple lunch fare.
Or on weekends you can have lunch next door at the T-Bar Pub.
Internet Facilities
Wifi on the mountain is fairly sporadic and cell service for many tel-cos is absent, so you’ll just need to communicate the old school way.
