Where is Castle Mountain Resort?
Castle Ski Resort is located in the SW corner of Alberta Canada very close to the BC border, 45km southwest of the town of Pincher Creek (population 3600) and about 40km off Highway 3. Castle Mountain Resort is 145km (1.5 hours) west of the city of Lethbridge (population 93,000) and 250km south of Calgary (2.5 hours). It’s only 1.5 hours north of the Carway and Rossville US border crossings.
Castle Mountain Ski Resort shouldn’t be confused with the other Castle Mountain Alberta which is near Banff.
Flying
Castle Mountain is a 267km drive from the Calgary International Airport, or the regional Lethbridge Airport is 1:45hours from Castle (with flights from Calgary, Edmonton and Ft McMurray).
Or if you’re visiting Castle Mountain as part of a road trip with a slight detour off the
Powder Highway, then there are various airports that you could use for entry/exit into the region.
Driving to Castle Mountain Alberta
Other than a very limited transport service for a club that offers ski and snowboard lessons, there are no shuttles or bus services to Castle Mountain, so self-drive is the best way to get there. The GPS coordinates are 49.31635 N by 114.41011 W.
It’s an easy enough drive and even though the last part of road is unsealed, it’s a well maintained road. Best of all, the parking is free and it’s right at the base of the ski resort not far from the lifts.
Getting Around the Ski Resort
The base area of Castle Mountain Resort is rather small so it’s very easy just to walk around. The Castle Lodge is just 130 metres across the car park to the day lodge, and the condos and cabins are no more than 200-350m from the main base.
Other Ski Resorts Nearby
Pass Powderkeg is 58km north of Castle Mountain Alberta. It is a small family friendly ski area with decent snow.
Fernie Alpine Resort is 133km northwest of Castle.
The town of
Banff is 340km northwest of Castle, so it’s a long drive to get to the Banff ski resorts.
