The Powderhounds have given Heavenly Ski Resort a 5 out of 5 rating for the quality and quantity of restaurants in the associated town of South Lake Tahoe, so the dining must be pretty ….. Heavenly. The nightlife also gets the big thumbs up with full marks.

Stateline and South Lake Tahoe Restaurants

There are about 165 restaurants in Heavenly Village, Stateline and the South Lake Tahoe area. You’d have to be mighty fussy if you couldn’t find something you like. The area has every type of restaurant ranging from high priced steakhouses to dodgy take-away joints.

For sheer gluttony, one can’t go past the casino buffets. All the Stateline casinos have them, and whilst they tend to be more expensive than Reno casinos or Vegas, they are still magnificent value. Make sure to leave your common sense at the door and let the feast begin – bulimics should not apply!

Cierra Steak and Chophouse in the Montbleu Casino is a fine dining steak and seafood restaurant. You might want to frock up to go here for dinner.

For exquisite Greek cuisine with a twist, check out Jimmy's Restaurant and Bar at The Landing on the waterfront.

For a cheap and cheerful meal, head to Café del Soul at Mont Bleu Resort Casino and Spa. They have a range of meals including a signature dessert of a deep fried Snickers bar – filthy! Breakfast is served until 11pm for those who don’t quite know what time it is, and it has the most amazing happy hour drinks specials. For something fast and really cheap, head to the food court of Harrah’s casino.

For dinner with a difference, try the excellent Sunset Dinner Cruise on Lake Tahoe onboard the paddle steamer MS Dixie II. The food and entertainment is top notch.

Après Ski Bars

Heavenly is the only ski hill I’ve been to where the skiers go to a supermarket to buy beer to take to the bar and drink. When you realize how much the beer costs at the Fire and Ice Bar (near the base of the gondola) and how lame the happy hour specials are, you soon understand why. Having said that, sitting around outside next the gas log fires and swilling a few cheap microbrews is mighty fine. BYO and sit outside!! Also very amusingly, you’re not supposed to wear your ski boots inside the Fire and Ice Bar even though it’s touted as an après ski bar!

There are a few other bars and eateries at the base of the Heavenly gondola (e.g Gunbarrel Tavern), which are popular for après ski drinking.

If unfriendly staff and getting ignored because you’re not a local floats your boat, go to McPs bar on the lake side of the highway. Be sure to leave your sensibilities at the door.

Nightlife

Step over the state line into Nevada and you walk straight into Harveys, Harrah’s casino, or into MontBleu Casino or The Hard Rock Cafe.

For entertainment there’s always something on at one of the casinos. Bars, food, gambling, shows, music and other entertainment will keep you up til the wee hours. If the snow’s falling, don’t get sucked into a big casino night on the eve of a powder day.
