The Ohau ski resort facilities and services are not extensive, but they are more than adequate for the essentials. It’s not tricky to find your way around the
Ohau Ski Field as the facilities and services are housed within a few small buildings near the car park.
Ohau Ski Hire
Ohau ski hire and snowboard hire is available at the ski field for very reasonable rates, and these can be packaged up with a lift ticket and lesson for even more reasonable prices. The Ohau ski hire “shop” has lots of skis but don’t expect a range of powder skis or demos. There aren’t quite as many snowboards but there is more than adequate equipment for general requirements. They also rent out jackets, pants and helmets.
Eating On Mountain
The day lodge is rather small so it can get friendly at times during inclement weather. Getting friendly is all part of the essential Ohau culture, as is standing around the fire telling a yarn or two. The day lode has a small canteen selling “real” coffee, pies, slices, muffins, snacks and other beverages. The canteen also sells a few sundries and Ohau souvenirs.
Outside is a great deck that affords magnificent views of the Ohau ski field and the lake.
Facilities for Children
The ski field and Lake Ohau Lodge aren’t really well geared up for babies or toddlers with no crèche or babysitting available.
For children there are really cheap snow school lessons available, including special school holiday lesson programs. At the lodge, there are various facilities for the kids, but because it’s so family friendly the kids can largely run around and entertain themselves.
Ohau Ski School
Ohau offers group lessons or private lessons at prices that are dirt cheap. The various learner and development packages that include a lift pass and equipment also go for a song.
