Tomamu Facilities

Tomamu is a very well established resort that has comprehensive facilities and services. Lift ticket sales, eateries, ski and snowboard rentals, and shops are located at each of the Tomamu hotels as well as the Resort Center.

Facilities for Children

Childcare services are available for short periods or all day (8:30am to 5pm plus an evening service from 6-9pm) in the Tomamu Tower. The Tomamu nursery offers an array of kids’ programs that can incorporate indoor crafts and/or outdoor play. Child care is available for babies 5 months old to children 8 years old.

Evening childcare is also available for guests of the upscale Otto Sette Tomamu restaurant in Risonare. This is a free service for children 2 to 6 years old whilst adults enjoy their fine cuisine.

Or for complete family friendly convenience, if you stay at Club Med Tomamu, kids club/child care/lessons (ages 4 and up) is included and child care for ages 2-3 can be added to your package. It makes for a very family friendly, no stress Hokkaido ski holiday!

Tomamu Ski School

The Tomamu Ski School aka the Snow Academy employs Japanese and English speaking instructors, and offers a range of ski school and snowboard tuition programs.

For children ages 4 to 6 there are group lessons available with Japanese speaking instructors who as a minimum, speak enough English to get by. Otherwise kids’ lessons for ages 3 and 7 and up need to be in a private format.

Adults wanting an English-speaking instructor will also need to book a private ski or snowboard lesson. Tomamu Resort also provides various programs for up and coming powder hounds who want to learn some basic backcountry riding skills.

The Snow Academy lesson meeting place is out the front of Tomamu the Tower hotel. For guests staying at Risonare, you can ski/ride down a gentle beginner run to get there, or catch a shuttle bus.

If you’re staying at Club Med Tomamu, group ski and snowboard lessons are included as part of the hotel packages, whilst private lessons attract an additional fee.

If you're staying at Furano and want ski or snowboard lessons at Tomamu, you can get private lessons which include transport between your Furano accommodation and Tomamu.

Tomamu Ski and Snowboard Rental

Ski and snowboard equipment along with snow wear are available for rent at the Resort Center, the Tower Hotel, and the Risonare Hotel. Equipment rentals are targeted towards piste skiers and snowboarders, and note that adult ski length is a maximum of 165cm. Ski and snowboard boots range up to 31.5cm, which equates to a US mens size 13.5 or 47.5 euro sizing.

Club Med Tomamu has its own pro shop for ski and snowboard equipment rentals.

Eating On Mountain

Tomamu has a good range of lunch restaurants and eateries that are easily accessible from the ski area.

The Resort Centre at the gondola base houses affordable eating options including a cafeteria, creperie, fried chicken shop, and ice-cream outlet.

There is a quaint mid-mountain restaurant, Mt Café SOL., near the base of the Powder Chair. The round building serves a range of fare and is a good place to warm up around the fire.

Kumo Café is adjacent to the Unkai Terrace at the top of the gondola, and it tends to attract the sightseeing pedestrians there to see the frosted trees. The café serves up coffee and a few other light meals, and you can get even get some frost tree themed sweets!

Hotalu Street is located near the Tower Hotel and is conveniently ski-in ski-out. It includes half a dozen lovely eateries for a lunch time feed. We were particularly impressed with Takezo that serves up interesting twists on ramen that are perfect for a cold day.

Or if you're staying at Club Med Tomamu, lunch is included.

Banking Facilities

Tomamu has ATMs in the lobby of the Tower Hotel, although unlike some Japanese ski resorts, Tomamu takes credit cards virtually everywhere (including for lift tickets) so the amount of cash needed is minimal.
