Innsbruck Freeride Tour

Ski & Snowboard the Best Resorts in the Austrian Tirol

The Innsbruck Freeride Tour is a week of shredding some insane spots, with incredible backdrops and some of the most consistent powder in the Alps. Innsbruck is the snowboarding (& skiing) capital of Europe and where the city meets the alpine. You’re probably thinking why stay in the city? It’s all about the access, terrain and snow quality. Within a 30 to 50 minute drive, you’ve got dozens of places to ride - from smaller old-school ski hills to the modern mega resorts, all filled with endless riding options from alpine to the trees. Of course, no trip is complete without a day riding the famed Stubai Glacier. There’s arguably no zone in Europe that’s littered with as many good spots to ride, still with minimal tourists and incredible snow quality.

While the Austrian Tyrol is home to some of the biggest resorts in the world, some of the best powder days are to be had in smaller, ‘locals’ resorts which get overlooked. These are our secret spots where you’ll still find powder, even days after a storm. The tour's local Innsbruck guide is on-hand to give you that intel and put you in the right spot each day for the best snow. You’ll chase the snow and ride at different resorts each day.

On this trip you’ll stay in the heart of Innsbruck’s historic Old Town so you can immerse yourself in the culture as well as enjoy the vibrant hustle and bustle. The city is steeped in history and it’s a tourist attraction in its own right. Each night, join the crew to explore the narrow winding streets of old town packed with traditional restaurants, bars and beer halls.

You’ll have a guide on-hand who knows a thing or two about finding the best snow and terrain, as well as sharing unique insights into the local culture and food. Our local guide is born and bred Innsbruck and can’t wait to show you the highlights of his hometown. Plus he’s a passionate freeride snowboarder, instructor, photographer, FWQ athlete and all-round good guy.

Highlights of the tour include:
• Flexible Itinerary so you get to ride the best resort of the day.
• Stay in Innsbruck so you get the combined benefit of world-class ski resorts nearby AND all the after-hours perks of staying in an incredible city.
• Riding the local resorts - the smaller, 'family' resorts can often be overlooked in favour of the mega-resorts, but they are the secret spots where powder lays untracked days after a storm.
• The best local experiences are guaranteed with a local guide on hand at all times to ensure you get the taste of true Tyrolian culture.

Ski Resorts & Itinerary

Spending 6 nights in the freeride city of Innsbruck is the best place in the Tirol for the ‘powder chase’. There is no other city in Europe where you can stay in the city and explore incredible resorts with great freeriding, fun tree runs, and perfectly crafted snow parks in such close proximity. For a genuine experience, the tour's local guide shows you the best of the Tyrol culture, with après-ski, night sledding, hot pools and Tyrolean beer.

Unlike being stuck at one resort, this tour is built for flexibility. With over 30 resorts within reach from the tour base at Innsbruck, your local Mint Tours guide will assess weather, snowfall, and conditions each morning to decide where to ride. This means you’re always chasing the best snow - whether it’s a quiet locals’ hill after a storm or higher alpine terrain in a mega-resort on a bluebird day. With no fixed plan and local knowledge leading the way, every day is about maximizing conditions and making the most of your time on snow. And as the days ends the fun continues with the best apres ski in the world....

The range of ski resorts accessible from Innsbruck is mind blowing. Depending on weather & snow conditions, the resorts visited on the tour can include Axamer Lizum, Glungezer, Hochoetz, Ischgl, Kuhtai, Mayrhofen, Nordkette, Gurgl, Schlick 2000, Ski ArlbergSoelden, & Stubai Glacier to name a few. The options are endless within a short drive from Innsbruck.

Lodging & Meals

A comfortable 4-star hotel in or next to the centre of the Innsbruck 'Old Town' will be your base during the tour. All breakfasts whilst on the tour are included in the tariff. Lunches on the tour will be had at restaurants on the mountain each day. In the evening, the tour hosts know all the good restaurants & bars in Innsbruck to ensure the best possible experience. For more info on accommodation & meals see the Lodging tab.

Hosts & Guides

The experienced team at Mint has been shredding all over the planet for the last twenty years, so it’s fair to say they have got the top destinations wired. The tour operators pride themselves on sharing first-hand knowledge and experience; from picking the best lines on a powder day, booking you comfortable accommodation, and knowing the best restaurants, through to giving you the low-down on the best equipment or even the right board/ski wax to use. There will be a full-time host & guide on hand throughout the tour so you don't have to worry about a thing.

Your guide has an in-depth knowledge of each resort visited on the topur and will show you around, letting you in on some of the locals-only secret spots. The resorts all have incredible freeride terrain, and the local Mint Tours freeride guide is on-hand to show you why this is the best place to ride in Austria.

Small Group Experience

On this trip you’ll find low client to guide ratios and expert local knowledge. Small groups ultimately leads to a better experience for everyone. The tour's small groups allow greater manoeuvrability and ease of access to the best areas a destination can offer. You will have the opportunity to learn new skills, improve your confidence & make new friends whilst riding the best powder on offer. A maximum of 6 guests are on each tour.

Getting To & Around Innsbruck

Depending on where you are coming from, it may be possible to fly direct into Innsbruck airport (INN) or it may be more convenient to fly into Munich (MUC) and take the train to Innsbruck Hbf (main station). Either way you will be greeted by your tour hosts on arrival & transfered to your hotel. During the tour, a private van will be used to transport the group to whatever ski resort destination is on the day’s agenda. For more info on how to get there, see our Travel to Innsbruck page.

Day 1 - Arrival & Old Town

Be met by your guide & hosts at Innsbruck Airport or Innsbruck Hbf (main train station). From here, a quick 10-minute transfer to your 4-star hotel accommodation located in Innsbruck. Check in, dial your gear, then stretch the legs with a stroll through the medieval quarter and a first look at the surrounding peaks. That evening, shift straight into Austrian mode with a welcome dinner at a classic beer hall: solid food, local lagers, and trip brief. If you’ve arrived solo (plenty do), this is where the week’s crew gets locked in.

Day 2 to 6 - Storm Chasing Guided Days

Each day will follow a similar format. This is what you can expect on tour. Five full riding days. No fixed schedule - just the best snow we can find inside a 30 to 70-minute strike zone that holds more than a dozen resorts plus a stack of locals-only hills. Legs will burn.
