Flights into Innsbruck Airport
Innsbruck (INN) airport is served by flights from mainland Europe, Scandinavia and the UK. Flights numbers and options increase during the winter season. The airport is conveniently located close to the centre of Innsbruck. The old town centre of Innsbruck is well worth a wander around.
The Innsbruck city centre and central bus & train station is a 15min bus ride from the airport via the Route F bus at the terminal. Taxis offer an alternative.
If flying in late or leaving early, stay at a delightful Innsbruck inner city hotel or guesthouse & use a taxi for the 10-15min journey to/from the airport.
Flights into Munich Airport
Munich (MUC) international airport is rated as one of the world’s best. It receives a vast number of flights every day from worldwide destinations. The centre of the city of Munich is worth at least one overnight stay to experience the beer halls & other goings on.
Munich airport is well served by efficient train transport which link quickly with train services to ski hubs like Innsbruck. Take the S8 line from the main terminal (trains every 10min) to the major Ostbahnhof for trains direct to Innsbruck and other ski resorts. Travel time is 2hr 30min.
A host of major car rental companies are available at Munich airport, however the vehicles may not be set up to the highest standard for winter driving (i.e. good quality snow tyres), and one may be better served hiring a car closer to the ski destination, like Innsbruck airport. Driving time to Innsbruck and on to Schlick is around 3hr

Tram & Bus Transport to Fulpmes & up to the Ski Lifts
Tram & bus transport from Innsbruck to the Stubaital & Schlick 2000 is excellent. Numerous services make the journey through the day to Fulpmes and the ski resort. The tram service to the town of Fulpmes in the Stubai valley is called the STB or Stubaitalbahn. It runs from the Innsbruck Hbf to Fulpmes at least once every hour. Journey time is 1hr. From the Fulpmes bahnhof (station), take the free ski bus to Schlick 2000.
See the Stubaital Public Transport Map here.
Bus transport to Schlick is provided via the route 590 bus. It journeys via two routes from Innsbruck to Fulpmes every 30min between 0830hr and 1730hr. Change in Fulpmes for the short free ski bus ride to the ski resort. The route 590 bus continues onto Neustift im Stubaital and the Stubai Glacier ski resort (listed as Mutterberg on timetables).
All public buses in the Stubai valley (up valley from Telfes) are free for people wearing ski gear between mid-October and early May every year.
For day trippers from Innsbruck, one free ski bus picks up at various hotels in Innsbruck from 8.45am and provides another option for travel to Schlick 2000. The bus continues to Stubai Glacier and fills quickly on some days, so the STB tram or route 590 bus is the more dependable (and timely) option.
Driving to Fulpmes & Schlick
Schlick 2000 is easily accessed by car off the A13 highway via Innsbruck or the Brenner Pass from the Italian frontier. Schlick is less than a 30min drive from either Innsbruck or Brenner. Turn off at the Stubaital signs on the A13, and follow the B183 road, before turning off to the right for Fulpmes and following the signs to the ski resort. Be wary of speed limits in the Stubaital. Most villages and the main valley road have speed cameras throughout, and they are in some sneaky places too.
Tolls
The A13 road heads up over the Brenner Pass to Italy and has a toll payable for all traffic. Unfortunately the road to the Stubaital & Fulpmes is just the first tolling point on the A13, and hence a small, but painful toll is required to be paid when exiting. The toll can be avoided by taking the scenic roue 182 road instead, however it is certainly 'scenic' and not time efficient at all.
Car Rental
All the major airports and cities have car hire available, however for many skiers and snowboarders Innsbruck is the most convenient place to rent a car. Whether you are flying into or transiting via train, tram or bus, cars can be rented in Innsbruck from the airport or various locations near the relatively compact city centre. Check prices, as locations away from the airport are sometimes cheaper, but not always convenient! Snow tyres in winter are mandatory in Austria, so all cars will have them. All-wheel drive or 4WD vehicles offer the safest driving experience.

Car Parking
There are two car-parking options at Schlick (well three actually!). Paid parking is undercover in the gondola valley station and whilst very convenient is not so cheap. Free parking is in a vast open car park just below the gondola terminal. A free shuttle bus picks up skiers to bring them the short distance to the gondola, or you can just walk. The third option is to leave the car parked at your hotel and take the bus to the gondola base.
Getting Around Fulpmes & Schlick
If staying in Fulpmes, free ski buses do regular circuits through the town on a number of lines, and then drop skiers off directly at the gondola station. They are the best way to get to the ski lifts. Check the timetables posted at the nearest stop to your hotel.
The village is small enough to walk throughout but note the ski lift base is up the hill via a sometimes busy road, so we do not recommend walking to the gondola in the morning, take the free ski bus.
Nearby Ski Resorts
Local Innsbruck ski areas near Schlick 2000 include 12 other 'Ski+City' resorts. The closest is Stubai Glacier and Bergeralm followed by the fun Patscherkofel (Igls), Glungezer & Nordkette. Further afield are Oberperfuss and the larger Axamer Lizum & Kühtai (the highest resort base in Austria).
Schlick is intricately linked to Innsbruck, which is centre stage for a huge range of Austrian, and even Italian, ski resorts. Innsbruck is a train transport hub that allows easy travel east to the Zillertal (with Mayrhofen & Hintertux Glacier) plus further to Kitzbuhel, SkiCircus Saalbach & Zell am See. Or perhaps west to Pitztal Glacier, the Oetztal and Soelden or fabulous St Anton & the huge Ski Arlberg area. South to Italy & the close Dolomites resorts like Plose, Gitschberg-Jochtal, Kronplatz and 3 Peaks - not to mention all of the other Dolomiti Superski resorts.
