Where is Hudson Bay Resort?
Hudson Bay Mountain Resort sits on Hudson Bay Mountain, 22km west of Smithers, a drive that takes about 30 minutes. Smithers BC sits on Highway 16 (Trans Canada, Yellowhead Highway), 370km northwest of Prince George and 350km east of Prince Rupert.

Situated on the
Northern BC Powder Highway, the surrounding region receives abundant snowfalls and is home to a few cat and heli skiing companies.
Skeena Cat Skiing is based just north of Smithers. Suskwa Lodge of Skeena Cat Skiing is located 45 minutes northwest of Smithers near New Hazelton, and from there the backcountry camp up in the mountains is accessible via 4WD and snowcat. Transfers can be provided from town or the Smithers Airport to Skeena Cat Skiing.
Bear Claw Lodge of
Skeena Heli Skiing is located 138km northwest of Smithers, far far away from major civilisation and the hubbub of everyday life. Transfers are provided from Smithers.
Bell 2 Lodge of
Last Frontier Heli Skiing is located 220 miles (360km) northwest of Smithers along the Stewart-Cassiar Highway, and transfers from Smithers are included in the package.
There are no ski resorts near Hudson Bay Mountain Resort. The closest is the
Shames Mountain Ski Area near Terrace. Terrace is about 200km from Smithers and then it’s another 37km onto Shames Mountain Ski Area.

Train to Smithers
You can catch a train with VIA Rail on the “The Skeena” which runs between Jasper and Prince Rupert with stops in Smithers as well as Prince George (which is connected to Vancouver with BC Rail).
Or Greyhound runs a daily bus that heads along Highway 16.
Driving to Smithers and Hudson Bay
You’ll probably find it much easier to drive to Smithers or fly to Smithers and then get a
rental car, to enable ready access to the ski resort and to get around Smithers town with ease.
The drive between Smithers and Hudson Bay Resort takes about 30 minutes. The road is unpaved most of the way, steep in parts and with no safety guards, but the road is well maintained and reasonably wide. It’s also below the treeline which seems to minimise any white knuckle driving.
Bus to Hudson Bay Mountain
A cheap bus heads between town and Hudson Bay Resort each day that the ski resort is open.
