Hibernation is Not For Wimps

Powderhounds Review of White Grizzly
White Grizzly is a well refined operation that’s perfect for very experienced skiers and boarders who love steep tree skiing. The other very clear strength is the emphasis on safety.

Other pros include: the quality and quantity of the powder; a great snowcat; the value for money; and the scrummy food.

Whilst the lodge and après-ski culture is not intended to be one of the highlights of the operation, it definitely is. It doesn’t outshine the strength of the powder skiing, yet the log house and the experience of hanging out there is beautiful and friendly. Combined with the small group format, you can’t help but feel at home and very relaxed. White Grizzly doesn’t generally attract those looking for a party scene, but rather those who just want to lounge about and have a chat.

Brad and Carole have created something pretty special here.

White Grizzly has a unique situation with North facing, cold temperatures, tight trees, and steep pitches. The guiding is excellent , with safety and fun in mind at all times.

The ambience of the lodge is very intimate and always a pleasure with both guests and staff. Brad and Carole the owner/operators make sure to do every thing they can to make your trip memorable.

We have been going back for more than a dozen years in a row, and can't wait for our next trip, already booked.

Ian Hamilton at White Grizzly
Skied three days at White Grizzly after a snow drought in most of the Kootenays ... but not White Grizzly. The micro climate surrounding White Grizzly and expansive terrain delivered steep and deep fresh tracks every turn every run.

I've skied many Cat and Heli operations in the BC interior and can say without any hesitation that White Grizzly is among the best. The ratio of available steep terrain and snowfall to number of skier is phenomenal. Looking forward to my next trip.

White Grizzly is an awesome place for the advanced powder skier who loves steep and deep terrain with tight trees. The snow quality was awesome with real light knee-chest deep 'blower' pow all 3 days.

Aside from the great steep terrain and amazing snow, WG also provided a nice cozy lodge environment with really friendly staff and good service and food. I loved the fact that the lodge was small and there was only 12 of us in the lodge and out on the mountain.

I visited White Grizzly last January for a two day adventure.

The terrain was awesome. Very steep, great snow, fun features. I could not even keep up with the amount of vertical we covered. It turned out that I was skiing with an ear infection, but had a great time anyhow. Next time I will make sure I'm in better shape first, because if my legs had more power I wouldn't have had to sit out a run.

The guiding was amazing. They had a lot of knowledge about avy control, and they were willing to help educate.

The lodge was very cozy and the food was great. It was a nice experience to stay right there.

I will book another trip next time I have a chance.

You want that Deep, Deep pow experience. Then White Grizzly has your name on it. Carole and Brad Karafil know how to treat you right and get you to the goods. With state of the art snow cat machines that take you and 11 other riders up to the money in total comfort, you can rest assured you’re in for a fun filled day ripping turns on their terrain which is suited for the die hard pow skier. There are plenty of variations in terrain and pitch to keep you wanting to session the same area but with over 11,000 skiable acres there’s no need to!

Your digs for your stay are in a gorgeous Log structure, The Alpine lodge which is only a few minutes away from the cat barn. Here you have all the amenities of home, big fireplace to kick back and chill after another pow filled day, hot tub to take the aches away from those well worked muscles, wireless internet to e-mail those epic pictures from the day to your buddies back home. Sometimes I don’t know what is better, the actual skiing or hitting the send button to your friends! Nothing like a little gloating.

Dinners are family style with some incredible down home cooking. Carole knows how to serve up some incredible hearty meals like fresh BC Salmon, mouth watering BBQ NY Steaks just to name a few things off her menu. Rooms are spacious, comfy and nicely decorated.

White Grizzly is a place where you and 12 of your good riding buddies need to come experience that private powder skiing adventure. Just one more thing, when your shredding turns through the trees and you thought you saw something fly by your head, you did. it’s just another flying squirrel. Yes there are actually flying squirrels!
