I went on a ski trip with "just the guys" and we stayed right downtown Salt Lake City. We rented a vehicle and drove to the resort of our choice each day.

They used to have an Irish bar right downtown there called "Port 'O Call" that was sooo awesome, but I think it's been torn down. It was 4 floors of fun and if it's still there you must go! There were a few other bars downtown that were good too, but they all close at 1 am is the bummer.

The city was very clean, easy to navigate, not crowded and it took us 20-30 minutes to get to any of the canyon resorts.

We stayed at a nice downtown hotel. (I cannot remember the name but there were two of them - sister hotels one right across the street from the other.) It was easy to get food and do things inexpensively.

Pros: So easy to get around, get to the ski resorts, get food and all the amenities of a big city, while on a ski trip. It was very inexpensive. Not crowded. Easy to navigate. It is a beautiful city that is very clean.

Cons: For a big city there is not much nightlife. That is all bad I can say about this city.

Best suited for: Really anyone and everyone, but mostly groups and people looking to ski the canyon mountains.
