Sun Valley Heli Ski Day Packages

Add a day or more of heli skiing with Sun Valley Heli Ski to your Sun Valley vacation. Enjoy the majestic views of the mountains from the helicopter, and then savor the sweet untracked turns on the way down.

See the Sun Valley Heli Ski overview for information on the location, the heliski terrain and snow.

Full Day Packages

Full day heli ski trips are available for solos, couples, or small groups to book. The day includes a guarantee of 6 runs, with run lengths ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 vertical feet each.

Private Charters

Private day heli skiing charters are for truly discerning powder hounds that want the ultimate flexibility to have exclusive use of a helicopter. It allows you and your group to set the pace, whether that be a leisurely day in the mountains, or experts that want to fully charge at the fresh lines like powder hounds on a feeding frenzy. Private charters also provide the major benefit of being able to access portions of the vast playground that aren’t normally skied by the regular groups. Please make a booking request for a quote for your charter.

Inclusions

All day heli skiing packages include use of an airbag backpack and avalanche transceiver to maximize your safety. A safety briefing is provided to familiarize you with the equipment, movement around the helicopter, and other protocols. Lunch is included and usually served in a protected spot in the mountains where you can enjoy the views.

Ability Level

The Sun Valley Heli Ski terrain accommodates strong intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders. In order to safely enjoy your heli ski experience, as a minimum you should be of strong intermediate ability off-piste and have reasonable fitness.

You should be capable of dealing with the challenges presented by deep snow and varied snow conditions, such as heavy powder and breakable crusts. If you are comfortable on the intermediate and advanced runs on Sun Valley Resort in varying conditions, then you likely possess the skills needed to heli ski.

If you’ve never skied powder snow, you can contact SVHS to discuss in further detail.

Skiers should have powder skis with a minimum of 100mm in the waist, which will allow flotation in the powder and make it easier to stay on top of varied snow conditions. There are rental shops in Sun Valley where you can source powder skis.

Typical Itinerary for Full Day Skiing

Prior to Heli Day:

Please make sure you have all the required gear and equipment. You may wish to speak with the staff about the equipment to be sure you have the proper gear. You may wish to familiarize yourself with the Waiver and Release form that you’ll sign on your heli day.

7:15am Zoom Call

On the morning of your fly day, you will need to participate in a brief (approximately 10 minutes) Zoom session with a SVHS staff member and your fellow guests. It covers the plan for the day and the weather.

8am Sun Valley Heli Headquarters – Gun Club

Unless otherwise specified on the Zoom call, the meeting time will be 8am at headquarters to be weighed, which will be taken into consideration for formation of groups. You’ll sign a waiver and then participate in a safety briefing with your group which encompasses how to operate around the helicopter, how to use the avalanche safety equipment provided, and other backcountry safety considerations.

9:30am

The first group of skiers and riders will depart in the helicopter, subject to weather and other matters. The other groups will either depart from the Gun Club or drive their personal vehicle or the heli ski van to one of the various staging areas, where you’ll fly into the backcountry to start heli skiing.

Noon

Guests will enjoy a mid-mountain lunch part way through the ski day, which will be after the third or fourth run. Following lunch, you’ll continue skiing or riding. Once guests have completed the 6 runs, they will be flown back to one of the staying areas or to SVHS’s headquarters. Weather and time permitting, guests will have the option to continue skiing or riding for an extra charge per run.

3-5pm: End of Day

Return to the low lands with lots of smiles and high 5s! The actual return time will vary based on the logistics of the day. All times are subject to change based on weather and other logistical matters.

Full Day Heli Skiing/Riding Reservation Policies & Procedures

Reservations and Payment

You will agree that you have placed one or more non-refundable $750 deposits to reserve the seats you are reserving. You hereby authorize SVHS to charge the credit card that you have on file for the remainder of the purchase price 3 days prior to your scheduled fly date and agree that this is also non-refundable. If your reservation is made within 3 days prior to your scheduled fly date, then you agree that you have made a non-refundable payment for the entire purchase price.

Waiver and Release

On or prior to your scheduled heli ski or riding day, you will be required to sign a Waiver and Release. This Agreement states that you understand all the unique risks of flying in a helicopter in mountainous terrain in potentially hazardous weather while skiing and riding in the backcountry and that you agree to assume all the risks associated with such activities. It also states, among other things, that you will release SVHS from all liability under any circumstances and that you will indemnify SVHS for any liabilities it may incur for providing these services. Finally, it states that you will not sue SVHS under any circumstances. The full text of the Agreement is available on the bottom of our website under “Waiver and Release.” We highly recommend that you read this important document.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

  • You agree without question to adhere to SVHS’s Cancellation and Refund Policy. Except as described below, all payments made to SVHS are non-refundable, regardless of whether you are able to fly with SVHS on your scheduled fly date. ·
  • No refund will be issued in the event you do not arrive at your scheduled designation at the designated time as advised by SVHS staff. ·
  • No refunds are issued in part or in whole for unused days due to a guest’s late arrival, early departure or any other reason. ·

Additional flight time and other costs resulting from any evacuation or early departure from the field will be charged to the guest.

It is important to note that it is not the responsibility of SVHS to remind you of your reservation. It is the responsibility of the guest to be on time at whatever time or location SVHS may direct, on their reserved day.

The only exception to our Cancellation and Refund Policy is when we are unable to fly due to weather or other circumstances, in SVHS’s sole discretion. If this occurs, everything that you have paid toward the purchase price will be refunded, less a 6% Administrative Fee. Insurance

Sun Valley Heli Ski strongly recommends that all guests carry Trip Cancellation Insurance, Trip Interruption Insurance, Medical Insurance, and Emergency Evacuation Insurance. These various coverages safeguard you against unforeseen mishaps that can occur before or during your helicopter day with us. The refund and cancellation policy is absolute.
