Visited June Mountain this past weekend 4/7/2024. Talk about a resort with potential. Breathe-taking views, big snow total potential, cool town, cool terrain if they decide to expand, low-profile, and friendly atmosphere. That being said, the current state of June is nothing special. The lifts are slow, the terrain has the classic steep to flat problem, and there is limited steep groomed runs. The front side of June offers AMAZING steep trees, chutes, and cliffs, but the problem is that the only lift that services that terrain is a very very very slow two seater. It makes the terrain almost impossible to lap. If June decided to add a high-speed lift on that front side, that zone would be all time.

This resort is meant for families and locals that need to escape the crowds of Mammoth. There is limited terrain offerings but plenty of flat greens for kids to learn and others to have a relaxing day on the slopes. There is no lodging or infrastructure to support a ski trip being dedicated to June, but maybe if you are spending multiple days at Mammoth, head over to June one of those days and check it out.

Part of me is saying that I should keep my lips shut, but I feel like the reviews on here don't do June Mountain justice. While the secret is starting to get out, this local's playground in the Eastern Sierra still mostly flies under the radar.

The truth is I've had more "pinch me is this real life?" moments at June than any other ski area in North America. As with the rest of the Sierra, the snow is either boom or bust, but when it's on it's ON! Once the Face opens (on low snow years it may not at all), June transforms from a sleepy intermediate family hill to an all-you-can-eat steep powder feast. If you can make it on a storm day where most of Mammoth would be closed for wind, you will be rewarded greatly.

Beyond the boundaries, the backcountry access is limitless. On a good snow year, you can ski straight to town from the mountain. On lower years, there are still plenty of options above the resort to score powder.

Yeah the lifts suck. There have been murmurings of replacing the J1 double out of the base, but nothing has come to fruition. But if it helps to keep the masses away I'll take it gladly!

This is a fun family ski resort, but please beware of out of control riders from behind! Collisions are the number one cause of injury and or death at Mammoth! This not made public, so beware and look behind you for riders at excessive speed! Don't have a false sense of security because June is a family mnt. It happens at June to!

Unfortunately we didn’t get to see June Mountain in all its glory because we visited in a very low snow season. The bottom half was closed, so we didn’t get to explore the steepest parts of the mountain, and we had to download the double chair (which is what beginners have to do all the time). It was a little freaky downloading and wondering whether my skis would stay on the chair in front, but the view across to the lakes was delightful which was a pleasant distraction.

This is an awesome family hill, and there were about 10 people there the day we visited, so even when the snow is on, it would be hard to imagine that it could get too crowded.
