Mestia Georgia Ski & Ride Tour

Overview

The Georgia Mestia Ski and Ride Tour is a new tour from Powderhounds travel partner, 'The Adventure Project' (TAP). Explore the amazing ski resorts and backcountry areas of Mestia, an ancient town in northern Georgia. Known for its beautiful views of the surrounding Caucasus mountains and the many medieval Svan towers dotted around the landscape, Mestia makes the perfect base to experience the local skiing & snowboarding, plus the incredible culture and food. This is an area that receives a lot of snow and is still relatively unknown by most Westerners.

The tours will take several groups of advanced/expert skiers and boarders to the Georgian ski resorts of Tetnuldi and Hatsvali plus ski & ride the best backcountry terrain in the region. Each tour is an 11-day program, with 8 nights staying in Mestia, working with local guides (UIAGM certified) and The Adventure Project's own experienced guides. There will be 7 on-snow days with comprehensive avalanche safety training included. The trip will finish with 2 nights and a full day of exploring the capital of Tbilisi. See the full program on the Itinerary tab.

Georgia is an amazing place to visit. A fascinating culture & history, superb cuisine & wines, plus beautiful mountains & fabulous skiing make this tour a great way to explore & get to know the country. Hospitality plays a major in Georgian culture. You will enjoy some fabulous food and accommodation on the tour. For more detail, see the Lodging tab

Skiing, Snow & Terrain

Tetnuldi & Hatsvali are Georgia's quietest ski resorts and provide the perfect combination of high-altitude alpine terrain, and storm proof tree skiing in the Greater Caucasus. With its its high altitude base & new lift system, Tetnuldi provides superb access to terrain over 3,160m elevation & skiable verticals of 900m+ inbounds, and considerable longer out of bounds! The small ski area of Hatsvali is located just near Mestia and is often overlooked by visitors to the region. However it provides stellar, protected tree-skiing whenever winter storms are raging in the high mountains. The Svaneti is a high snowfall region, with great snow conditions & untracked freeride powder until April. The lift system provides fabulous access to the huge backcountry and several intriguing ski-tours out to snow-bound fortified villages. that gives Gudauri its well deserved reputation as a freeride powder destination. Lift ticket prices are a paltry USD10/day and are not included in price.

Ability

This trip is suitable for advanced and expert skiers and boarders. Participants should be at least able to comfortable ski & ride a black run. Participants need to be able to ski variable backcountry snow conditions & be fit enough to undertake boot-packing & skinning to access the best backcountry lines.

Groups

It is strongly recommended to put together your own private group of 4 people so that you have your own cohesive group which does not need to be added to by TAP. That said, individuals or non-complete groups are most welcome, but please note that we cannot guarantee the compatibility of a group that is not known to each other.
