Central Zone Resort Smasher

The Central Zone Resort Smasher Tour from Summit Ski is a multi-day ski safari incorporating a multiple ski areas in the Central Hokkaido region and within easy driving distance of your base in Furano. For mixed group tours, the focus of the terrain is to ski or ride plenty of powder at the ski resorts, with a little short hike here and there.

The ski areas of Central Hokkaido are powder laden. Due to the location away from the coast, the climatic conditions in Central Hokkaido produce low humidity dry powder that falls in abundance. The region also has the highest mountains of Hokkaido. The Central Zone Resort Smasher heads to some of the best ski areas of the Hokkaido Powder Belt such as Furano, Tomamu, and a gem or two, plus the famed Asahidake in the Daisetsuzan mountains.

Local weather patterns typically vary somewhat, and your guide will have some flexibility to adapt the trip to chase snow conditions in order for you to get the best possible experience.

Groups

This tour is offered as a mixed group tour where solos or small groups can join one of the fixed date tours. The terrain focus is resort gates with a minimal hike here and there. The sample pricing is based on if there are 6 people in the group and it is tiered if there are less people in the group. See the Rates and Inclusions tab for pricing information.

Or if you have your own group you can have a private tour. The tour is customisable to what you want, so you can ride lift-accessed powder, have a mixed of resort and backcountry touring terrain, or go full backcountry. It's up to you.

If you have any questions or want to double check about availability, please make a booking request.

Ability

This tour requires advanced riding skills. Riders should be fit and feel comfortable skiing black runs and be progressing into powder snow in amongst trees. The guides can provide technique analysis and provide instruction to help develop your powder skills. The guides can also cover introductory skills for riding in the backcountry in order to gain the best experience from the tour.

Equipment

All mountain/powder skis and snowboards will be needed for this trip. For skis we recommend a minimum of 100mm underfoot. As all terrain is lift accessed or assisted, there will be no need for backcountry touring equipment (unless you're a private group that wants to go touring). Avalanche safety equipment will be required.

Lodging

You will be staying in a hotel in Furano, within walking distance to restaurants, bars and convenience stores. Book early enough and the aim is to have a hotel with a hot spring on the top floor. Rooms are shared twin bed rooms with ensuite bathroom.

If you are a solo traveller there is the option to upgrade to a single room for an additional charge.

Please get in contact for more details on lodging.

Itinerary

This is just a sample itinerary as each day the guide will decide on the ski area depending on the snow and weather conditions.

Day 1 - Pick up from Chitose Airport and enjoy your ride up to Furano, which is known as Hokkaido's belly button because it sits right in the middle of the Hokkaido island. Check in to your accommodation and get settled in. 7pm briefing on the trip.

Day 2 - Furano Ski Resort is perfect for gaining those top to bottom laps through Hokkaido's driest powder snow. Just a small slide out of the resort can give the group access to completely untouched tree runs through hidden forests.

Day 3 - Just south of Furano is the next destination. Tomamu is packed with powder pockets, and with most skiers sticking to the beginner slopes of this vast area, the group will have no problem lapping up the goods in and out of the resort.

Day 4 - Kamui is a local's ski hill and is the perfect lift accessed powder playground.

Day 5 - Sahoro offers picturesque birch tree runs and some secret stashes.

Day 6 - Known as ‘Kamui Mintara’ or the "Playground of the Gods", you'll spend the final day of the adventure on Hokkaido's tallest mountain. On fine weather days you'll see the active volcano with fumaroles billowing out sulphurous smoke.

Day 7 - Return to Chitose Airport after breakfast

The weather forecast will be checked regularly by the guides. Safety predictions based on these will be given each morning at breakfast before heading to the resort. In the case of bad weather conditions there may be the possibility to explore an alternative close by resort or spend 2 days at one of the above mentioned resorts if the weather permits.
