Daisetsuzan Classic

The Daisetsuzan Classic Trip is a fully customisable tour for PRIVATE GROUPS. In particular, this trip is suited to ski and split board touring groups that want to get further into Hokkaido's highest mountain range.

Daisetsuzan translates to mean “Great Snowy Mountains” and refers to Hokkaido`s largest mountain range which runs through the center of the island. Ski areas in this part of the island include Furano, Asahidake, Kamui, Kurodake and Tomamu. Tokachidake is also located here and is an incredible backcountry touring zone.

This trip can be based from either Furano, Asahikawa or higher elevation alpine areas such as Asahidake and Tokachidake depending on your group`s interest and the timing of your visit. Areas within striking distance in Central Hokkaido are Asahidake, Kamui, Furano, Tokachidake, Tomamu, Sahoro and Kurodake (depending on the time of the season). Wrapping up in Sapporo leaves you with a chance to visit Kiroro, Sapporo Kokusai or Teine Highland. The weather, snow and your interests will ultimately dictate where you end up each day.

Highlights

  • 7 days
  • Central Hokkaido to Sapporo
  • 1 hotel change
  • Mix of lift access and backcountry touring
The itinerary is just a sample to provide a concept and price, but there are a lot of different ways to ski Hokkaido and this trip can be longer or shorter, visit more/less areas, take a different route etc. Submit a booking request outlining your group, skiing interests, how much time you have, and a custom itinerary can be put together that fits your requirements.

The package includes all accommodation with daily breakfats, lift passes, guiding and the in-bound transfer from Chitose Airport, and private transport in a comfy 4WD van to other ski areas on guided days and to Sapporo.

There are limited guides available for these tours so you will need to be quick to lock down a tour & date. If you have any questions, want to check availability, or get a quote for your group size or trip duration, you can make a booking request

Ability & Equipment

To get the most out of this tour, RSGs recommend you be as a MINIMUM, an advanced skier/boarder. You should be able to confidently link together tight turns on black runs and have some powder skiing/riding experience.

You need to have a good level of fitness and be prepared to go ski touring/splitboarding. Whilst the lifts will be used for most of the uphill travel if you wish, having the ability to ski tour as conditions dictate will help weather-proof your trip.

Avalanche safety kit and ski touring or splitboarding equipment is required for all multi-day trips. Equipment rentals are available - please make a booking request for more information.

Accommodation

Because this is a custom package, the accommodation will be chosen based on your group size

The advertised package is based on lodge-style accommodation in Furano. Lodge-style accommodation in Furano usually has single western-style beds (sometimes bunks) however in most cases bathrooms are shared. As this is a custom package you have the option to upgrade to a hotel, apartment or a private house for an additional cost.

In Sapporo & Asahikawa, there are some very good 3-star hotels that RSGs use however there is also an upgrade option to a 4-star like the Mercure or the Cross Hotel (subject to availability). The hotels based on the advertised package price have single western beds (twin or triple-share) and all rooms have private en suite.

In each case, breakfast will be provided each morning (most likely buffet-style with a reasonable selection of western food).
