Epic Las Leñas trip through PowderQuest

I had a remarkable trip to Las Leñas. I've been skiing for 28 years and this was one of my top three all-time favorite trips. The guides, Max and Pedro, were the best I've had. They not only were conscious about getting the best lines per the snow conditions but they were also knowledgeable of avalanche risk and conditions, which made me feel safe. Las Leñas itself was beautiful and epic -- it's quite the hidden gem in terms of skiing, lodging, friendly people, the food, and the wine. PowderQuest worked hard to ensure we had transportation plans arranged and supported each person's individual requests and needs. I will be booking through PowderQuest again.

Las Leñas guided side country September 2024

25/09/2024
I just returned from an unforgettable side country ski trip at Las Leñas in Argentina, and I can't recommend it highly enough! This adventure was a dream come true, thanks to our incredible guides, Max and Pedro.

Max, our IFMGA mountain guide, expertly assessed our group's abilities, striking the perfect balance between challenge and enjoyment. Each day, he kept us engaged while ensuring our safety.

Pedro, our local guide at Las Leñas, showcased his extensive knowledge of the terrain, choosing the ideal spots each day based on the snow conditions. His ability to find the best lines made every run thrilling!

The snow conditions were fantastic, and the breathtaking landscapes of Las Leñas added to the experience. Our energetic group made the camaraderie on the slopes even more enjoyable.

Overall, this trip exceeded my expectations, and I can't wait to join another adventure like this. Thank you, Max and Pedro, for making this experience unforgettable!

Great trip with awesome guides

08/09/2024
Not long back from a wonderful "all mountain off piste" trip with PowderQuest led by our awesome guides Chris & Ro. I wasn't sure what to expect from Chile but this trip exceeded it by miles - great snow, accommodation, food, wine and logistics;
but most of all our guides & a group of like minded snow seekers - riding powder in August has to be one of my 30+ years of snowboarding highlights (especially when it's as empty as La Parva was!). I've had a few great guided trips and this really is up there: highly recommended!

My only tip would be to get PQ to arrange a taxi from the airport to the meetup point to ease the initial journey after a long flight (and allow 1 hour to enter & exit Chile) - after that *everything* is taken care of.

I just turned 30 and I was eager for an adventure. I signed up on this trip not knowing what to expect. Chris and Ro were absolutely amazing the love they have for the hills and their local community made the trip so enjoyable. The laughs they share, the knowledge they know. I wasn’t sure about my skill level but they reassured me, spent some extra time with me, and Chris even gave me some pointers on how to improve my snowboarding. If you long for the snow, want to embrace a new culture, see some amazing views and slopes Chris and Ro are who you want. They make your trip unforgettable to the point where all you can think is man I can’t wait to go back!

This is a 4th trip with Powderquest - and I keep coming back to this company because they provide fantastic tours, with superb guides. This latest trip to Chile 2024, was no exception. Chris and Ro found us powder runs, just off the main lifts of the resorts and guided us expertly throughout the week. Powder Lodge in Farrelones is also worth a mention, with its beautiful sunsets and home cooked food.

I give PowderQuest and our Argentinian All Mountain Resort Off Piste trip a 10 out of 10! From the knowledgeable office staff who promptly answered all questions (thanks Suzi), to the absolutely incredible guides (looking at you, Erika and Marcos!) my expectations were exceeded from start to finish. I loved the opportunity to see different resorts and mountains and towns, ski different terrain, try different foods, and be exposed to the culture of Patagonia. I highly recommend this trip and PowderQuest as a company and hope to book our next adventure soon!

Great Terrain and Guides

29/07/2024
With Jarek Nieto a true Powderhound
Backcountry
La Parva (has great side-country terrain)
The group
Nevados de Chillan
This tour exceeded my expectations. The terrain was bigger, steeper, and better than I thought it would be. The guides (Jarek Nieto and Chris Garcia) were more experienced and more helpful than I expected. As longtime instructors, they helped us all improve our technique and I learn about reading snow and terrain conditions. They were also very entertaining and fun.

From a nostalgia point of view, skiing in Chile in 2024 felt like skiing in the USA in the 90s before everything got so crazy in the ski industry!

Even in good snow years, the Southern hemisphere snow can be challenging, so be ready for anything. More people wanted to come than there were beds available in Farellones — so best to book early since there are not a lot of hotel/inn options. Powderquest also helped me to arrange a day ski trip to Portillo from Santiago that was great. One day in Portillo was just right.

Absolute once in a lifetime trip that I’ll be remembering for the rest of my life.
Communication pre-trip was excellent. We were left with no questions and completely ready for our trip, transfers, and answers to our questions about the bonus time we booked on our own.
Once we got here, Mo and Cam took excellent care of us on the mountain and off. Positive attitudes, excellent powder hunting abilities, great food and conversation, genuine care and concern for our safety, and encouragement whenever needed. After spending 14 hours a day with these guys, I can confidently say they set the highest standard.
I know that behind the scenes, while we were sleeping and resting, these guys had to be working tirelessly to make sure we were at the best spots, away from the crowds , skiing the best pow, taking no unnecessary risks, lining up excellent meals, and a hundred other things I’ll never know about but benefited from - not once did I see any of that. Everything just happened seamlessly from our vantage and without a hitch. Absolute professionalism.
I cannot say enough good things about PowderQuest. It is clear they are deeply connected in the industry and have access to the best people.
Arigato Mo, Cam, and the people of PowderQuest. You have a customer for life and I’ll send anyone who will listen your way.

Best Guides in South America

Rachel Cross
05/09/2023
I have traveled to South America twice with PowderQuest - first time was to Argentina and just got back from a week in Chile. Though Chile had a rough season as far as snow fall, we lucked out and arrived just as a storm brought in a few feet. Our local Chilean guides, Chris and Alvaro, made sure our group of 6 was constantly in the loop as far as weather conditions, what resorts they recommended each day based on several factors, and when weather or road conditions didn't allow us to ski/ride, they found fun alternate things for us to do. On the days we did get to ski, they were patient, fun, knowledgeable, and super helpful. They split the group into two according to skill level so no one felt slowed down or pressured to keep up, which was perfect. I couldn't believe they were able to find powder stashes with fresh lines even 2 days after a storm rolled in (I'm used to powder getting tracked out in 10 minutes in California!). I also appreciated that they are ski instructor trainers (meaning they train other instructors) so were able to give me tips about snowboarding I've never heard though I've taken advanced lessons in the past.

We were supposed to go cat skiing one day but the road to Arpa was closed so Chris and Alvaro arranged a trip to the coast to Valparaiso, which turned out to be super fun and a great way to explore a different part of Chile. We were refunded the money for the cat skiing day, which I really appreciated.

The tour itself includes all the lodging and transportation between places once the tour starts, plus breakfasts and dinners together (we had lunch on the mountain together as well, but on our own dime), which really created a sense of camaraderie and allowed six people to get to know each other quickly. We came as strangers and left as friends.

I would definitely board with PowderQuest again!

This trip was everything I could ask for and more. Everything from beginning to end was fun and just amazing. The views and the slopes were incredible even when conditions were not perfect, and the food was fantastic every time. The people we got to meet were kind and understanding! Our guides, Peter and Pedro contributed immensely to the fun and helped with with every question we may have had. The experience we had as a group gave us friends that we will stay in touch with and an experience that made us appreciate how beautiful the world is. I cannot even truly express how incredible this trip was! Thank you and absolutely take this trip if you are considering it!

Excellent adventure

17/08/2023
I have gone on a handful of trips to South America and Japan with PowderQuest and the experience has been consistently excellent. This time, it was a small group of 2 splitboarders and Maxi, our guide, did a great job of finding uphill routes and downhill lines suitable for splitboarders. Off the hill, logistics were effortless, with Maxi picking us up at the Bariloche airport and driving us around. Accommodations were comfortable in Villa La Angostura, Bariloche and Baguales. Baguales was especially beautiful, a fantastic mountain lodge in the middle of nowhere, fully staffed with fantastic food and a beautiful lodge with all the amenities, not to mention the endless touring terrain. After stupidly forgetting my boots in the lobby of the Bariloche hotel the morning we arrived at Baguales, Maxi and the Baguales staff quickly found me a spare of boots and arranged to pick up my boots, so I didn’t miss a day of touring and had my boots that night. Just an example of how they take care of you.

I wouldn’t hesitate got recommend PowderQuest to anyone, and look forward to the next trip!

Bariloche Backcountry Skiing + Snowboarding Adventure Tour

Andreas Baumann
16/08/2023
Just finished the Bariloche Backcountry Tour!
It was an amazing experience!
We were only a small group of 2 Splitboarders on this trip plus our guide Maxi.
So first of all it's so great that with powderquest the tour will still take place even if there aren't many bookings.
I highly appreciate that!
Since we were only a small group, we were really flexible with decision making in the backcountry.
Our guide maxi was awesome! Jeff and I were both splitboarders so he always choose terrain that fits us best he even took the wide skis to make better skintracks for us!
The ability level in our group was on point, so we did as much hiking and riding as we could fit in a day!
So we used each day to the fullest.
It was a difficult season snow wise but maxi our guide made sure that he got as to best snow that was a available at the time.
Just before we went to Baguales we got lucky with fresh snow, and there we were riding powder every day!
The Higlight of this trip were definitely the days at baguales not only because of the fresh snow, but the all over experience we had there.
The Mountain hut there is just something else, excellent service, great food, hot tub and endless terrain to hike and ride!
I only wish that we would have spend more days at baguales then in the resorts, I could easily spend a whole week just at this place! With maxi guiding, riding awesome lines in thid place is guarenteed!
To sum it up, this tour was a great experience I am super happy and really enjoyed it and I am alredy looking forward to my next trip with powderquest, next time hopefully a full week at baguales 😁

Words can’t express how meaningful and magical this trip to Patagonia was. First and foremost, the guides made it the most pleasurable and fun experience I’ve ever had at a new destination. The people in the group were phenomenal. I will have lifelong friends that I’ve shared an incredible experience with that I will never forget. From pick up to drop off everything was seamless not a beat was missed. The weather conditions and the food could not have been better for the week I spent in the special place. I highly recommend anyone looking into a powder quest trip to pull the trigger and do it! you will not regret one moment of your trip!

Just finished my week in Chile on the All Mountain Resort and Off Piste vacation.

The PowderQuest team did good! Fabulous experience. Alvaro and Christian our guides were not only amazingly talented athletes but fantastic leaders and diplomats, encouraging us all to get the very best out of ourselves each day. They are a credit to PowderQuest. I should also mention the driver Philippe who was unfailingly patient and helpful. The food and lodge accommodation were also excellent as were the hotel and the restaurants in Santiago. I leave feeling certain that I was honored to participate and I will be back with PowderQuest because you hire such great people. A life affirming experience. And I should also mention my snowboarding was completely transformed. Thank you all at PowderQuest. I cannot wait for next year. Hasta la vista!

Hokkaido was my second trip with PowderQuest, and first time to Japan. Nothing could have prepared me for this epic adventure! Mo, our lead guide, consistently found the secret stashes around Hokkaido. Matching our ski abilities to terrain meant I always felt challenged and safe while discovering a whole new level of skiing! Japow!! A Powderquest trip also includes tours of local restaurants to taste and explore local delicacies. Powderquest thinks of every detail!
The trip was so incredible, I soon booked another one! (Their trips are so epic, one is never enough).
Bonus of a Powderquest trip - you make some life long friends!

Wow, I loved loved loved this trip!!! The skiing was so great-- as per usual, the Powderquest crew busted their butts to find us the best snow every single day. We were based in Furano, which put us about an hour from a bunch of other resorts, so each morning they made an educated decision on whether to stay at Furano or take a day trip. Every day and every decision was totally awesome and worth it. We got to see several different areas and ski blower pow every day. It was so perfect. Also, the food was INCREDIBLE and all of the hotels/accommodations were awesome. Traveling with Powderquest is such a treat because they really take their roles as guides seriously-- they take me to the best runs, the best snow, the best food, and the best hotels, and I don't have to make any decisions or do any research-- I can just relax and enjoy myself. I love traveling with them and cannot recommend this trip enough! Go have fun in JAPAN!!!

I've been on three tours with the Powder Quest guys (twice in Hokkaido and once in Hakuba).
I always had a great time, I'd come back anytime, guides were very professional, knew the place perfectly and every days we were going to the best option available.

I'd definitely recommend them!

PowderQuest & Hokkaido were EPIC

This was my second trip with PowderQuest and I have already booked a third.. Going in to the first I was thinking it would be a once in a lifetime event but PowderQuest was honestly so amazing that I’ve changed my philosophy!

The guides went above and beyond to make sure we had fresh lines, that we were safe, and that we had fun. They were professional but also a pleasure to hang out with after the turns were done.

Skiing was epically Japan. Amazing terrain, gorgeous views, super light powder in abundance. The skinning was well worth it but I’ll give a lot of credit to our guide who made sure our track was clear and manageable.

I highly recommend this trip and have developed a lot of trust in PowderQuest's ability to choose epic locations and guides!

We have skied in South America with PowderQuest for many years, so when they began offering tours in Japan doing a Hokkaido trip with them was a quick & excellent decision. We were based at a darling hotel in Furano, with an equally darling as well as entertaining proprietor. PowderQuest's owner & founder, David Owen was our guide, along with a local guide who knew the area well. Our little band of snow seekers ventured out every day to find the best & most beautiful. We ski toured in Daisetsuzan National Park, boot packed through forests, shredded bamboo, and made turns along mountain streams. In a word... a dream. Hokkaido's cuisine is amazing. Our group was fantastic. Anywhere in the world PowderQuest decides to go next, we will surely follow. And, we will be back with them in Japan very soon.

I went on the PowderQuest trip to Hokkaido in January of 2018 and it was the best ski trip of my life. The guide was a true professional and made certain that the group was both safe and having fun. The accommodations were very nice and conveniently located. The other skiers and boarders on the trip were great athletes and have become even better friends. This was my second trip with PowderQuest and I expect to do many more in my future. Highly recommend!

In two years I have done 3 trips through Powder Quest. The reason I keep going back to them is that I find their guides to be the most knowledgeable and personable of any other tour company I have used. They are absolutely dedicated to delivering to the client what they want from each tour. I love learning new skills and my guide Maxi taught be how to cut a proper skin track, use maps, assess snow conditions and avalanche risk, etc. Our tail guide Keala taught us about Japanese culture and took us to the best restaurants. I skied deep snow, learned new skills, ate amazing food, and got incredible action shots that made my friends jealous. I cannot recommend Powder Quest enough. I’ll be a lifelong customer.

After Having been captivated by images of Japanese powder for years, skiing Hokkaido with Powder Quest was a dream come true. The powder skiing in Hokkaido really is as good as you’ve heard, but without guides that can get you to the goods, you could ski nothing but tracked out crud, stand in lift lines and stumble your way through or completely miss fantastic food for your trip of a lifetime. Our guides knew where to go to get away from the crowds, we skied deep, light untracked snow 5 out of 7 days. The first 2 days were following an extended stormless period, then it started snowing and never stopped. As a cultural experience PowderQuest provided a Japanese guide who’s insights gave our group a behind the scenes view of local customs, cuisine and history which was an unexpected pleasure. The Furano area is filled with packs of dudes, all strong skiers, guided by mostly non-Japanese and all hunting for pow. Our group skied better snow day after day, ate better food with special attention because of our Japanese speaking guide and skied mostly by ourselves enjoying the spiritual silence of the forest. This is my third trip with PowderQuest (Chile 1st, Argentina 2nd) and I have 100% percent confidence that when I buck up for a bucket list trip that I will get what I want and be guided by total pros.

This was my third year to explore Hokkaido and Hakuba with Powderquest. I've skied all of South America with and without them for a decade so this decision was a no brainer. I've also ski toured
Antarctica, the US, my Montana backyard, Canada, Africa, Europe, and Australia. I know quality both in destinations and tour operators. You can't go wrong here. Management is responsive and flexible. On the ground, Mo has been my lead guide for years. His awareness of changing weather conditions, avalanche considerations and juggling group ability and expectations made for a perfect experience. Camille our secondary guide is equally astute and given his Swiss precision and profound command of
Japanese made the trips perfect. 2020 was a low snow year yet this was one of my best trips.

I went on this tour (Snowboarder) in early Aug 2019. Snowfall was weak at Valle Nevada and El Colorado that year and concerning to say the least!

Powderquest is run by seasoned professionals - they made the hard call to force a change in our tour and we went to Nevadas de Chillán after two days of getting our legs warmed up. This decision saved the trip! Chillán received some fresh snowfall and our guides found us untouched snow and fun lines every day.

I found the accommodations a lot of fun, but also relaxing. The team at Farallones made great food, entertained and were amazing hosts. Chillán was great as well.

Special shout out! - Christian was the snowboarder in our guide team. I didn't appreciate the value of having an experienced instructor on the tour until he changed how I ride. I built a lot of bad habits through a handful of years with minimal riding. Christian explained the proper techniques in simple terms and worked with us throughout the trip whenever we wanted, to work out the kinks. Thank you, Chris!

          Thanks Powderquest for the memories!

          Dream trip come true!

          Tom Aaron
          15/03/2018
Way back in the late 90's some professional snowboard friends of mine took a trip to Las Lenas and returned with some photos of riding Cerro Torrecillas. From that day forward it was a life quest to ride the spines of Cerro Torrecillas. I decade later I finally had that life quest realized on the Frontier Las Les trip with Powder quest and then some. The trip was mind blowingly awesome, from the food, the terrain, lodging, to the most amazing guides I've ever met.

I entered the trip with the primary quest of shredding Cerro Torrecillas but wanted to get my fill of South American shredding so I wanted to hit the longest tour Powderquest offered as I didn't know if I'd ever get the chance again. On setting up the tour, I shared the photo of Cerro Torrecillas with the guides and they told me they knew right where it was and said we could probably make it happen.

From day one I was stoked on our guides, lodging, and food. We kicked off with a warm up at Portillo, one of the most beautiful ski resorts I've ever visited. I instantly bonded with one of the guides and he skill set me accordingly, leading me to difficult lines, drops, and hits. From there the trip just got better and better, everyday with more awesome than the last. The trip kicked off right at the end of a snow cycle and I was amazed how our guides kept finding pow stashes. The stop off at Ski Arpa was outstanding to say the least. I come from the Pacific Northwest where our average vertical is usually 1000ft. At Arpa we were easily throwing down 3000ft vertical runs. Big wide open turns as fast as you could go. Lodging was this cool little Chilean resort with just the Powderquest crew. One particular day at El Colorado it was pretty crusty in bounds. The guides went out on a scouting mission, came back shortly, and we ducked into some huge vert with big open pow fields. The whole day was filled with pow turns shuttling to a van out of bounds. I was so stoked on their ability to show us the goods.

When we finally made it to Las Lenas the anticipation was high, I was really hoping we'd hit Torrecillas. Timing was of the essence and the clouds parted as we made the hike to Cerro Torrecillas. I railed fresh tracks down with the biggest smile on my face. As the storm cycle stirred up later in the week, the mountain shut down the Marte lift. The guides pulled some strings and managed to get us a snow cat so we could still nab some turns. Again the guides delivered on the goods when the rest of the mountains was shut down. So awesome. In the end this was the most epic shred vacation I've ever been on, and I've been snowboarding for over 30 years now. Ever since I've been planning my return saving my pennies for more refills. Thanks Powderquest for the trip of a lifetime!

When you put money down to travel halfway to the other end of the globe, you really want to have a satisfying experience. If you have the trip of a lifetime, well that's even better. The guides at PowderQuest (Mo and Vicho on this trip) knew the terrain like the back of their hand. On a day when it looked like there was no fresh to be found, they came through and found steep, challenging, and powder packed runs. I almost felt sorry for the other people at the resort riding down the wind scoured slopes in the fog. I said almost. The terrain in Argentina is unlike anywhere else in the world, and it is so expansive that it can be really intimidating, which is why I'm so thankful for the expert guides. They made everything easy and kept us in the loop regarding plans for each day, as weather in the Andes can be unpredictable. The highlight of the trip, however, had to be the two days riding at Baguales. The lodge is quaint and homey, and having private access in this area is nothing short of amazing. The trip to the lodge is an adventure in itself, driving through rivers before transitioning to the snowcat to take you the rest of the way to the lodge. We had great food, great wine, great hosts and accommodations, and absolutely stellar guides. All in all, there is nothing I can complain about with regards to this trip. My party arrived several days early to spend more time doing touristy things (read: eating meat and drinking), which I definitely recommend as Argentina is an incredible place.

Of the six or seven Powderquest tours I have been on, this was my all time favorite. Two whole weeks of fun traveling and skiing with a group that you really get to know well. Terrific guides that make it a unique experience and find you the best snow to ski/board on safely!

Visit Santiago, Valle Nevado area and experience the famous Powder Lodge that everyone loves to stay at. Fly to Mendoza and load up the minivan with all your gear again and go to an unbelievable winery and dining experience on the way to Las Lenas. Las Lenas is the most amazing ski camp you will ever experience. The hiking and slopes are ENDLESS and the "base camp" is a crazy place full of nothing but die hard skiers/boarders/guides and a party town too. Very international, ski fanatics from all over the world flock there every summer!

Would I do it again? ABSOLUTELY
