Madarao Resorts Explorer

Madarao is the perfect central location to base yourself to explore not only the fabulous skiing & riding that Madarao & Tangram ski resorts have to offer, but also the nearby resorts of Nozawa Onsen, Myoko Kogen, Shiga Kogen, Lotte Arai, Kijimadaira, Kurohime and Togari Onsen just to name several nearby ski resorts. The Madarao Resorts Explorer includes guiding of in-bounds terrain (on-piste and off-piste) at these resorts. If you are interested in heading into the sidecountry or backcountry, check out the Madarao Adventurer Tour

This Madarao Resorts Explorer tour has it all with cozy lodging in twin/double rooms with private bathrooms, daily western-style breakfast, a 6-course dinner, in-resort guiding, private transport to/from the ski areas you will visit with lift tickets included, and pickup/drop-off at Iiyama train station.

The package is fully customisable so you can add / subtract days of skiing/riding and add more guided days if required.

The sample price is based on private groups of 2, however groups can be as large as 6. If you are a solo traveller, want to customise the package, or check about availability, please enquire for a quote.

Guiding Services

Japan Snowsports offer in-resort piste & off-piste guiding for you and your group. The price includes a guide for each full day of in-resort guiding included.

Your guide will also have the skills to provide hints and tips to help you improve skiing or riding if that is what you desire.

Ability

Because these are private group tours, you can be of any ability level, however to get the most out of it you should probably be at least intermediate level or above.

Ideally your group will be of similar ability level or the faster skiers/riders will need to be patient for the slowest in the group.

This tour is all about in-resort skiing & riding on-piste with some off-piste within the resorts. If you want to ski the sidecountry/backcountry then check out the Madarao Adventurer Tour here. Or if you feel that tuition should be the major focus, then check out the Madarao Lessons Tour.

Lodging

You will stay in the JPS lodge in twin-share rooms or a family room. The package includes daily breakfast and the sample price includes a 6-course evening meal. See more about the lodge here>>

Sample Itinerary

This tour can be customised to your preferences, however here is an itinerary based on the sample price to whet your appetite.

Day 1 - Arrival Day / Welcome Drinks at Lodge

Welcome to Japan! Your hosts will be there to pick you up at the Iiyama train station. When you arrive at the lodge, a welcome drink will be ready for you.

Day 2 - Ski Madarao

Your first day of skiing or snowboarding! Organize your gear and get started exploring Madarao Ski Resort with your guide.

Day 3 - 7 Ski Various Resorts & Free Day

During these days your guide will look at the conditions and pick the right resort for you to make sure you are in the right spot to enjoy the Japanese skiing/snowboarding experience. Depending on where you ski that day, your guide will take you to their favourite onsens, cultural sites, and restaurants in that area on the way back to Madarao.

During this period, there is also a free day for you to take a well earned rest, do some sightseeing or add another day of skiing/snowboarding (lift ticket not included on this day).

Day 8 - Last Full Day of Skiing / Dinner at the Lodge

This is the last day on snow with your your guide, your last onsen, and the last dinner together, prepared by the in-house chef in the lodge.

Day 9 - Departure Day

You will be dropped off at Iiyama station for your journey onward or home.

JPS Lodge & Restaurant

For the duration of the tour, you will stay at the JPS Lodge.

The lodge was remodelled in 2019 by its owners and your hosts Dutchie and Annie.

For those not on a tour, the lodge offers a free shuttle to Madarao and Tangram resorts.

Accommodation

There are 2 room types:

1. Standard twin/double configuration - this is a great option if you’re a couple, two friends, or by yourself and want to have the extra privacy of having your private bathroom.

2. Family Room - this room is perfect for families, groups of friends, or couples who just want to have that extra bit more space. You will have two rooms and a bathroom for yourself. One room will have a double (or twin) bed. The other room is a bigger room that can be used as living room during the day and contains a comfortable sofa that can be converted into a double bed for the evenings.

All bathrooms include toiletries and a hair dryer.

Common Areas

The lodge has a cosy lounge area with a fireplace.

There is free wifi throughout and a communal working area.

Meals

Each morning, a western-style breakfast with homemade sourdough bread is served, including a different hot dish every day.

The restaurant also serves Mediterranean style food in the evenings, using seasonal local produce as much as possible, and making everything on your plate in-house and from scratch. The big communal table encourages an intimate dining atmosphere. This is a dining experience you won't want to miss.

Bar

The Japan Snowsports Lodge has an intimate bar offering a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
