Fabulous Stopover

23/12/2024
Singapore is a fabulous stopover when travelling between Australia/New Zealand and Europe. Whilst it is far too hot & humid for my 'child of winter' thermal regulation, there is whole lot of fun and culture to discover in just a single day. Early morning fancy breakfast at Raffles Hotel, fantastic rides at Universal Studios, stellar shopping and food, sights, sounds & smells about as far removed from the snowy Alps as one can imagine.

The airport is starting to show its age though and needs some refreshing in the coming years. Staff can be a little humourless too, which granted is not unusual in an airport, but best keep your wisecracks to yourself!

Quick Singapore Stopover

We had a quick Singapore stopover and it’s amazing what you can pack into a short space of time.

We checked into the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport Hotel and dumped our bags off so we’d be free and easy to explore the city. We caught the train into the city, or should I say trains because we had to swap trains about 4 times and it seemed to take a long while (we caught a taxi back to the hotel which was much quicker and worth the few extra dollars).

We used a tourist hop on hop off bus service, which was a great way to get a quick taste of the city, and also to visit various attractions including China Town, Marina Bay Sands (for a ridiculously expensive cocktail and a spot of shopping), and Gardens By the Bay.

Singapore is a vibrant city that has plenty of spunk and makes a complete contrast to most skiing and snowboarding destinations. It’s definitely worthy of a stopover.
