Lake Crackenback Resort

Lake Crackenback Resort

Lake Crackenback Resort is a 150 acre patch of beautiful land in the high country that looks up to the Snowy Mountains. The Lake Crackenback Resort and Spa offers a collection of studios and self-contained apartments and chalets.

Where is Lake Crackenback?

Lake Crackenback Resort is located 21km west of Jindabyne, just outside the Kosciuszko National Park. It is 16km northeast of Thredbo and it’s an easy drive to get there. Or if you want to ski at Perisher, it’s 46km by road to get there, or the SkiTube train that heads via a tunnel through the mountain to Perisher is adjacent to the resort. There are very regular shuttles between Lake Crackenback Resort and the Ski Tube.

Lake Crackenback is just outside the national park, so if you don’t plan on driving into the park during your stay, you don’t need to pay park fees, and 2WD vehicles are not required to carry tyre chains.

Lake Crackenback has studios and suites and a range of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments and chalets, some of which overlook the lake. The fully self-contained apartments and chalets all vary somewhat in décor and layout, yet they all have full kitchens, living space and dining area, laundry and parking, and some have open fireplaces, balconies or patios. Great Place to Stay

13/07/2022
We really enjoyed our stay at Lake Crackenback. It was away from the hubbub and craziness of the ski resorts and provided a serene experience in a lovely locale. An advantage for the resort it that offers various activities, and whilst we didn’t have enough time to partake in many activities besides skiing up at Thredbo, we did manage to go for a lovely hike along the river past Bullocks Hut. The hikes that the resort has on its doorstep to reconnect with nature are pretty impressive, although we only saw a fraction of the trails.

We stayed in a studio which was close to brand new and had very tasteful décor. It had a lovely big bed, a small seating area and a kitchenette, which we didn’t get around to using. The piece de resistance was the massive bathroom which featured an oversized bath, which was just the ticket for an après ski soak.

We had dinner at the Alpine Larder, which was heaving and there were queues to order food and drinks, and despite the staff saying there’d be a really long wait for food, it came out rather quickly. The fare was rather simple and the main event of the restaurant was the lovely alpine décor with plenty of wooden beams and stonework.

We also had dinner at Cuisine, which was fantastic. The wine list was impressive, the food delightfully gourmet, and the service very good.

Breakfast at Cuisine was quite nice. The buffet had a very good range of fare, although there was nothing particularly unique. The main highlight was the gorgeous morning views across the lake to the mountains.

We’d definitely recommend a stay at Lake Crackenback Resort. It’s location is ideal to ski/board at either Thredbo or Perisher or both, and they offer good quality accommodation for a range of group sizes.
