Harris Mountains Heliski Private Charters
Harris Mountains Heliski specialise in private charters where you and your group have exclusive use of a helicopter, your own guides, and plenty of terrain to explore. Private charters provide the ultimate adventure, where you have the freedom to set your own pace and ski or board wherever conditions permit. Ski and board as much or as little as you please, as fast or as slow as you wish. Your private charter reflects the exclusive desires of your group.
The
group heli skiing packages are fabulous, but you can take it up another notch with a private charter. With the group heli skiing, HMH put like-abilities in the one group, but sometimes someone over-estimates their ability and you have to ski terrain suitable for the lowest common denominator. Or with group heli skiing, you’ll often only play in the one or two zones because it’s not efficient to move three groups sharing a helicopter too far afield. However with a private charter, you have the ultimate in convenience and flexibility and can skip from mountain to mountain for variety or to find the ultimate snow conditions.
Private charters are available from Queenstown, Wanaka and Mount Cook.

Ability Level
The number of runs achieved is dependent on the number of heli-skiers/boarders in the charter group, their ability level and the helicopter flying time used.
By choosing a private charter it’s up to you to choose the ability level of your group, whether that be strong intermediate, advanced, or expert. However typically expert skiers and snowboarders enjoy charters the most because they’re discerning heli skiers who know what they want, and that includes charging at it on terrain that’s to their liking.
Options
The cost varies depending on helicopter flying hours and number of guides required. Particularly for experts who want maximum vertical and can pull together a decent sized group, the cost is very reasonable when you compare it to the cost for the expert 10 run group packages, and you get more freedom.
The charters can be customised so it’s up to you, but here’s a couple of options.
Option 1
Single Load
- One group (up to 4 clients). This is the premium. One helicopter, no limits!
- $12,795 incl GST for 2 hours of helicopter flight time
- Helicopter weight restrictions may limit numbers on this option to a max of 3 clients
Option 2
Double Load
- The same as Option 1 (single load) but for groups of 5-10.
- $14,795 incl GST for 2 hours of helicopter flight time.
Additional helicopter flying time is charged per actual flying time only and is based on the half-hourly rate of $2,400 incl GST.
- Helicopter weight restrictions may limit numbers on this option to a max of 8 clients.
