Very Authentic Ryokan

One of the indoor onsen baths
Located in the middle of the very cute village
Lovely tatami room
Sakaeya Shibu Ryokan  was incredibly deluxe, clean and modern, whilst also retaining its traditional Edo period features. Our tatami room was reasonable sized and included an ensuite bathroom, although we didn’t use the shower considering the beautiful on-site onsen with indoor and outdoor baths.

Even though our room overlooked the main street, it was very quiet and the only occasional noise was the clip clop of people walking on the cobblestones to the public onsens in their wooden thongs.

Our stay here was fantastic and provided a lovely taste of traditional Japanese culture.
