Hotel Grand Phenix

Hotel Grand Phenix

The Hotel Grand Phenix is a European-style chalet offering mostly western (European-style) rooms and is located ski-in/out at Okushiga Kogen ski area. The hotel is tastefully furnished with European style timber furniture and has exposed timber and stone features throughout.

Where is the Hotel Grand Phenix?

The hotel is located 1 minute walk from the nearest Okushiga Kogen ski lift and is effectively ski-in/ski-out.

It is 57km (approx 1:30 hours) from JR Nagano Station.

To get there, you can get a Shiga Kogen bus from the Tokyo airports.

Rooms

There are 3 general room types at the Hotel Grand Phenix and all are large by Japanese standards suited to 2 - 4 guests per room:

Twin Room (Standard & Deluxe)
(max 2 guests)

Suites (Junior, Deluxe & Royal)
(max 4 guests)

Japanese Tatami Rooms
(2 guests + 2 extra beds possible)

All rooms have TV, DVD and a satellite channel, LAN connection and wifi (free), telephone, bathrobes, hair dryer and private bathrooms plus complimentary toiletries.

Facilities

The hotel has a superb indoor Japanese bath house (onsen). There is also a large indoor heated swimming pool, jacuzzi, saunas and relaxation rooms.

One of the big pluses for this hotel is that it has a beautiful lounge area with open fireplace and a bar, so it has a place where you can congregate with family and friends after skiing.

Other facilities and services include a ski storage area, coin laundry, ski rentals, a Phenix ski shop, DVD rentals, vending machines, and room service.

Restaurants & Bars

The Hotel Grand Phenix has 2 high quality restaurants; one serving authentic Japanese cuisine and the other serving exquisite Italian food (what else would you expect from a European style chalet!)

There is a cocktail bar and lounge area which is a great place to hang out in the evenings.

A Home Away From Home

03/03/2016
The Powderhounds have not yet stayed at this hotel however we have compiled an editor’s review and ratings based on trawling and summarising other reviews. We've visited the hotel and had drinks and dinner there, and toured the hotel.

The title summarises what a number of people have said about this hotel, people felt that this chalet was very special and that the staff went out of their way to make people feel like they were at home.

PROS
- Amazing service and various staff that speak English
- Great location; ski-in/ski-out
- Large spacious rooms with big western bathrooms
- Great food and were able to cater for people with special dietary needs
- Superb Japanese bath house (onsen)
- Good in-room wifi (which is not the norm in Japan)
- Easy access to the international ski school with English speaking instructors

CONS
- Limited nightlife (but that is common to Shiga Kogen and most Japanese ski resorts and at least the hotel has its own bar and a choice of 2 restaurants).

I have to say I can't wait to stay at this place!
