For a couple of seniors, a 4 hour ticket included an excellent lunch and the onsen near the Tourist Information office. The resting room with its heated floor is definitely worth having a kip after the onsen. There are good tree runs for all abilities. The evergreen trees at the top of the third chairlift are well spaced.

Amihari Onsen is our idea of the ideal Japanese ski resort: stuck in the Japanese bubble era time warp where glitz and glamour are not important; inexpensive; great onsen; barely any other westerners there (and only Japanese staff); and you really know you’re in Japan.

We loved staying and skiing at Amihari Onsen (you can also see our review of the Amihari Onsen Hotel). There was really only enough terrain at Amihari for one day of skiing, but it was full of fresh tracks and we managed to discretely steer clear of the ski patrollers (despite a couple of silly gaijin skiing the lift line which can put patrollers on high alert). Amihari was also well located to access other nearby ski resorts.
