Tarentaise Powder Ski Safari

Overview

Welcome to the heart of the French Alps! Right from the start of the ski safari, the tour of the Haute Tarentaise seduces skiers from all over the world. Renowned around the world, this corner of Savoy has given birth to the largest and most beautiful ski areas in the world. This tour will visit the resorts of the Haute Tarentaise including Val d'Isere, Tignes, La Plagne, Les Arcs, Sainte Foy, La Rosiere, La Thuile & Valmorel.

Those who already know the Haute Tarentaise will be pleasantly surprised to discover a completely different facet of this fantastic valley. The Tarentaise can be traversed using the extensive ski lift network, leading you to the secluded spots on the backsides of the resorts, which remain undeveloped and wild as part of the Vanoise National Park.

For a week you'll ski across glaciers, down untouched snowfields, through forests and down the valley floor to the villages below. Every day your guide chooses the best itinerary to make the most of the local snow and weather conditions. So come have a glass of wine with the locals & taste their Savoyard specialties while you discover the wild regions of the beautiful Tarentaise.

With well-oiled logistics and in the company of a guide who is here at home, you are invited to ski the powder of the most beautiful off-piste slopes in the region. As you ski from one valley to another, your luggage is transported by road! Stopovers in small typical hotels, located in mountain villages well placed among the mega ski areas, will allow you to get to know and appreciate the Savoyard welcome. Join up for what former participants call “the greatest ski adventure of their lives”.

Highlights

• Ski off-piste for six days, discovering the wild mountains of the Vanoise National Park and its surroundings.
• Discover descents of 1,500 to 2,200 meters of vertical drop on the wild slopes of the Haute Tarentaise mountains.
• Savour the unmissable cuisine of these mountains every day: fondue, raclette, crozets and diots ending with the typical digestif of the French Alps, genépi!

Skiing & Snowboarding Terrain

Even those that already know the Haute Tarentaise will be pleasantly surprised to discover a completely different side of this fantastic valley during the tour. From the top of a ski lift you will traverse, hike or skin away from the ski resort to find the secret passages that will reward you with descents up to 2,000 metres vertical (over 6,000 vertical feet) on virgin slopes even after several days of good weather. Ski the powder on the most amazing north-aspect faces in the region: Bellecôte, Aiguille Rouge, Foglietta, without forgetting the corridor of the "9 valleys" in La Lauzière between Valmorel and Saint François Longchamp … to name a few.

Your guides will adapt the daily program according to your skills and mood. For detailed information of the program see the Itinerary tab.

Accommodation & Food

The tour includes accommodation in three traditional, 'small' hotels, all run by local families. As you ski from one part of the valley to another, your luggage is transported by road to the next nights’ accommodation! The tour includes all breakfasts and dinners. Lunches are not included in the tariff, but the guide will know the best mountain huts to visit for delicious local fare, or perhaps the group will pool resources for a picnic in the snow.

For more information see the Lodging tab.

Skier/Boarder Ability

This tour caters to strong intermediate to expert skiers. You should as a minimum be able to ski a steep black run with short, controlled turns, plus you should have some prior experience off-piste and in deep powder.

This tour incorporates lift access with traversing, hiking, and skinning to get to the best untracked snow, therefore you should have a good level of fitness.
