Traveling aboard Moondance, a 56-foot expedition sailboat, you’ll explore untouched backcountry terrain each day by ski or snowboard. From mellow bowls to steep couloirs, Finnmark delivers world-class runs for both experienced boarders and strong intermediates. At 70° north, Finnmark is the last stretch of true alpine terrain before the land tapers into the North Cape. With Moondance as your floating basecamp and an IFMGA-certified guide leading the way, you’ll spend the week immersed in Arctic wilderness - soaking in some of the most awe-inspiring views Norway has to offer. Itinerary
From the moment you exit the airport at Alta, everything is taken care of on the tour. Your driver will greet you and transport you to the first night’s accommodation at Øksfjord. The 2-hour road journey along the coast sets the scene for the coming adventure! The tour then spends ski days & nights sailing across Arctic fjords on the sturdy expedition sailboat, soaking in dramatic landscapes and tranquil waters. By day, skin up Norway’s remote peaks, then carve fresh tracks down pristine slopes - trekking wild, peaceful backcountry far from any crowds. Skiing & Snowboarding
The Ski & Sail Finnmark trip is immersive and hands-on, created to help you connect with nature and push your boundaries. Feel free to move at your own pace but prepare for an active outdoor experience.
As navigate Arctic fjords by sea and ski through remote, rugged mountain slopes - climbing up and riding down on skis or splitboard. This trip is best suited for fit, agile skiers & boarders eager to explore Norway’s wild landscapes, the Finnmark way.
On an average day you will ascend and descend around 1,000 vertical meters (3,280 feet), spending four to six hours on the mountain. Your expert guide will tailor each route to match the group's experience and prevailing weather & snow conditions. On a 'challenge' day, if the snow, weather and group align, the group will take on steeper, longer routes, pushing further into the wild. It’s not tied to a fixed-day but always on the radar. Regardless of the day, you’ll enjoy some of the best powder skiing conditions of the year, with fresh, soft snow that transforms the landscape into a winter playground.
Despite its location above the Arctic Circle, the climatic conditions in the region are not extreme, with average daytime high temperatures hover around 0.3°C (32.5°F) and nighttime lows averaging near -2°C (28.4°F). Expect days with partly cloudy skies with snowfall, mixed with cold, bluebird, sunny days.
Lodging & Meals

On the Ski & Sail Finnmark trip you’ll kick off the journey staying in a private apartment with shared double rooms and a shared bathroom at Øksfjord, a quiet fishing village filled with local charm. For the rest of the week, Moondance will be your home on the water. Purpose-built for high-latitude expeditions, this 56-foot sailboat offers shared-cabin sleeping, hot showers, a comfortable lounge/kitchen plus space to dry and store your gear. On board, life is pared back and peaceful - the sea rocks you to sleep, and each morning brings a new peak to explore.
For the duration of the trip, all meals are taken care of, and feature tasty, local dishes. You will be asked for any dietary requirements or restrictions beforehand. Non-alcoholic beverages are included in the tariff to keep you refreshed throughout the day and with your meals. Each evening, enjoy a complimentary glass of wine or beer with your dinner.

The tour photographer will capture your adventure so you can stay present and enjoy the moment. After the trip, you’ll receive a digital photo library to relive the experience.
Ski Ability, Fitness & Gear
To get the most out of this trip, a strong intermediate ski or snowboard ability in mixed snow off-piste terrain is best. Some ski-touring/splitboarding experience is essential.
Ski-touring & splitboarding gear (including required avalanche safety equipment) is not included in the tour price and are not available locally.
Getting There & Away
The start and finish of the tour is at the town of Alta in far-northern Norway. You will be picked up at the airport in Alta to start your tour and dropped back there on the final day. Direct flights are available from Oslo (OSL) airport to Alta (ALF) airport, with a flight time of 2hr. Oslo can be reached from anywhere in the world.
