Overview

A perfect tour for anyone wanting to earn their turns during the day & spoil yourself at night. Come & experience epic backcountry ski-touring on Iceland's Troll Peninsula with amazing descents all the way down to the ocean, plus wonderful food & lodging. Iceland is truly a world-class destination for backcountry skiing, with vertical descents of up to 1500m (or almost 5000ft), leading all the way down to the Arctic ocean. A backcountry ski experience with Sóti is perfect for those who want to enjoy the magic of North Iceland and gain insights to the wonders of ski touring under the guidance of an experienced ski guide.

The tour is based at Sóti Lodge in the beautiful Fljótin region of the Troll Peninsula approximately 30-minute drive away from Siglufjörður, along one of the most picturesque parts of the Arctic Coast Way. Experience 5½ days of incredible ski-touring. The tour is inclusive of the guide, all meals & accommodation at Sóti Lodge, plus includes exclusive access to Barðslaug, an authentic geothermal pool (only a few steps from the lodge), floatation sessions, hot tub and sauna. Ski Terrain & Vertical

The Troll Peninsula is magical due the amount of skiable terrain in a relatively compact region. Most of the mountains are skiable with a fabulous terrain mix of open, low-angle alpine bowls & valleys to steep couloirs and faces. Due to the Troll Peninsula's location in the northern latitudes just below the Arctic Circle, there is no tree skiing.

Depending on the group and the terrain chosen, up to 1,500m of vertical can be achieved during a full day. Whilst the mountains on the peninsula rise up as high as the 1,445m Dýjafjallshnjúkur (the peninsula’s highest peak), most peaks skied are in the 1,200 to 1,300m altitude range. It is possible to ski runs all the way from the peaks to the seashore. Peak to sea runs will average around 800 to 900m vertical.

To view the multi-day program, see the Itinerary tab.

Snow Quality

The snowpack is predominantly coastal and in the springtime (April/May) ranges from powder to corn snow. Stable avalanche conditions are the norm, allowing for steeper runs to safely conducted (if the group wants!). The corn snow in May allows for more intermediate skiers & snowboarders to enjoy heliskiing in the region.

Accommodation & Meals

The tour operator, Summit Heliskiing, is based out of the Sóti Lodge on the northwestern side of the Troll Peninsula. The lodge provides stylish accommodations, delicious meals made from locally sourced ingredients, an onsite pool complex, and stunning views of the magnificent surrounds, from sea to summit. All meals and apres ski snacks are included in the tariff. For more information on accommodation, meals, and facilities, see the Lodging tab.

Skis, skins, poles, and avalanche safety equipment are available rent at an additional fee, but boots are not available. Snowboarders should bring their own splitboard and touring gear.
