Catski Wolfsbed Hut Adjara Packages

Overview

Catski Wolfsbed Hut Adjara is Europe's best cat skiing adventure for expert skiers & snowboarders seeking a small group experience in a remote mountain environment. Cat skiing at Adjara is located in southwestern Georgia near the remote village of Bakhmaro. The closest major Georgian cities are Kutaisi & Batumi. For more information on how to get to Georgia & the gateway airport of Kutaisi (KUT), see our Bakhmaro & Adjara Location page.

Packages includes return airport transfers, 7 nights of accommodation in the rustic Wolfsbed Hut, all meals whilst in Adjara & 6 days of fully guided cat skiing. Whilst dependent on weather & the fitness of the group, during a normal cat ski day in Adjara at least 10 runs can be completed for a skiable vertical of between 3,000 & 5,000m. For more information on how a week at Adjara works, see the Itinerary page.

The main cat-ski season runs from mid-December to early March. In early December and March, the tours are snowcat supported ski-touring/splitboarding. For these cat/tour weeks see the Cat Ski & Tour Adjara page.

Snow & Terrain

The location of Adjara in the "Lesser Caucasus" is relatively close to the Black Sea, and is the region's best combination of awesome terrain, plus deep, consistent snow-pack. The proximity of the sea to the high peaks of around 2,700m provides abundant moisture, and when combined with cold temperatures, deep powder from December to early March.

The terrain includes great tree skiing & high alpine terrain between 1,800m and over 2,700m elevation in the snow laden 'Little' Caucasus of Southern Georgia. High levels of snowfall, especially at the beginning of the season provide generally excellent conditions. Massive terrain is skiable from the door at the Wolfsbed mountain hut. Tree runs with names like "Big in Japan' amongst the trees toward Bakhmaro, indicate the quality of the ski experience here. The numbers of return clientele are another indicator! Cat skiing here can get booked out quickly.

Lodging & Food

Designed for more adventurous expert freeriders, the Wolfsbed Hut is as comfortable as a rustic lodge can be made. Food is a highlight of any trip to Bakhmaro. All meals are included and no one goes home disappointed. For more information, see the Lodging & Food tab.

Ski Ability

The Catski Wolfsbed Hut Adjara tour is only for expert skiers & snowboarders with resilience & backcountry experience. Please be honest about your skills & experience!

Safety

The operation is run by a reliable and professionalism German-Swiss organization, where quality and safety management is paramount.

Tour groups are led by a local guide from the professional Georgian Mountain Guides Association, overseen by professional mountain guides from the Alps.

See the short video of the Cat Skiing experience in the Bakhmaro region courtesy of whitehearts,de. You can expect a similar, but more high alpine ski experience at Adjara.

Typical Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival (Saturday or potentially Friday night)

Arrival Kutaisi (KUT) airport in Georgia. Pick up at the airport & transfer to Adjara via Bakhmaro (2 hours with the minibus and then 2½ to 3 hours with the Snowcat). [There may be an overnight stay in the vicinity of the airport required depending on your flight arrival.]

Accommodation for duration of tour - Adjara Alpine Hut at 2,400m elevation with a maximum of 12 guests.

Day 2 - Induction & Skiing/Snowboarding

An easy start in the morning, a group brunch & introductions. Safety briefing & start skiing around noon.

Days 3 to 7 - Full Days Cat Skiing & Snowboarding

Cat Skiing in the mountains of Adjara. The Alpine Hut is at 2,400m allowing skiing immediately from the door! Above 2,100m, the mountains are tree-free. The summits able to be reached are 2,500 to 2,755m. The first season here was in 2019/20, with exploration of new terrain a big part of the tour. In following seasons, there is still adventure & exploration, but the best terrain is now well understood!

Depending on the area, the length of the run & the condition of the participants, about 10 runs per day is possible - between 3,000 to 5,000m vertical.

Adjara Lodging & Food

Wolfsbed Alpine Hut Accommodation

Catski Adjara is based in the gorgeous Wolfsbed Hut located deep in the mountains & far away from the closest civilization (hence the 2½ to 3hr transfer by snowcat from the nearest road). The isolated village of Bakhmaro is transited on the way to the hut.

The alpine hut is sited spectacularly on a ridge at 2,400m elevation & unlike the valley village location of Bakhmaro, awesome skiing is available straight from the front door. The hut is simple but warm & cosy. It has been fitted out with bunk rooms, toilets & showers, a common lounge area, dining area, sauna & kitchen.

Food

Full board with an extensive breakfast, a simple lunch snack and a Georgian dinner is provided whilst at Adjara. Due to the remote location in the mountains of the Lesser Caucasus, the supply of fresh goods is only partly possible. Meals will be delicious, but the difficult nature of logistics may limit variety throughout the week.

For breakfast, there is, next to the obligatory khachapuri "small chicken" - eggs as omelette or fried eggs, freshly baked bread and honey from local beekeepers. At lunchtime, there will be a simple takeaway lunchbox & snack to maximize ski time during the day. In the evening, Georgian cooking is at its best. You will be impressed with the quantity & quality of the dinner offerings. And, of course, you can look forward to the famous BBQ in the snow ...

Corona Virus Update re Booking Conditions

The deposit has been reduced to 20% to limit the uncertainty for our freeriders. However, down-payments to confirm that the bookings are binding and urgently needed to pay for diesel, spare parts, firewood, etc.

It is also impossible for us to predict how politics will proceed with restrictions. Accordingly, all flight plans must be enjoyed with caution. This year it probably makes sense to book flights later.

In the case of general impossibility - no flights or entry restrictions that make the tour impossible (quarantine on entry or return trip; general travel bans, etc.) you will be issue vouchers for the next season.

A repayment of the deposit will not be possible in the event of a (partial) cancellation of the season. For travel cancellations for personal reasons (own illness, injury, etc.), please take out travel cancellation insurance. We can no longer make goodwill refunds in these difficult times.
