Follow the Snow

We have skiied a lot of powder in the glacier ski resorts of Austria, and to do them all in week or two is the stuff of dreams. We dream big, and our dreams come true. We have done these sorts of road trips in the quiet period of January after the New Years madness has disappeared, and also later in March & early April when crowds are low and the upper mountains can be deep & stable after a storm. Get to Innsbruck, pick up your rental car, book accommodation just a few days in advance once you know the weather, snow conditions and order of destinations. During storms, ski the lower mountain resorts (i.e. if skiing Pitztal Glacier, ski the storm at nearby Hochzeiger, or if skiing Kitzsteinhorn, ski the storm at nearby Zell am See or Saalbach). If you want a break, visit Innsbruck & Salzburg. Whilst we don't do it, some mountains are better explored with a mountain guide on deep days (like Stubai Glacier).

Get out there and do it because life is short, the world is changing dramatically quick, glaciers in the Alps are disappearing, so make the most of it whilst it lasts.
