Definitely isolated and lacking in facilities but highly worth the trip. Snowfall is huge, very uncrowded and if you can make it into the backcountry its sublime

We visited Shames Mountain as a bit of a warm up prior to heli skiing with Northern Escape, who are based in Terrace BC. The snow quality had gone a bit sour, so we mainly played on the groomers (there were about 10 of them), and just lustfully gawked at the amazing terrain just outside the resort boundaries. If we weren’t saving our energy for heli skiing, we would have checked it out up close and personal.

What struck us the most about Shames was the friendliness of everyone there, from the old timers down to the young teens (who anywhere else in the world might have grunted at us whilst playing on their phone). In part the vibe might be due to the financial model of the ski area and the locals’ ownership, or maybe Terrace is just a relaxed town, or maybe it’s just that everyone was having a great time.

Whilst there is some nice tree skiing inside the resort boundaries, the main appeal of Shames is the backcountry and why everyone raves about the place.
