Pri Freeride Cat Skiing

If you are on the hunt for a seriously fun & different ski adventure, the Pri Freeride Company has been running a major cat ski operation for over 12 years in the remote heart of Siberia. From humble roots they are now a proven, well established freeride powder ski destination in a location that evokes all kinds of emotions & intrigue. As a bonus, Pri Freeride is located in one of the few places in the world that enjoys freeride powder before, during & after the northern winter. Operations can be in full swing by mid to late October & don't finish until June in some seasons.

In spite of the remote location; the atmosphere, food, lodgings & services at Pri Freeride are exceptional and include a restaurant, bar, micro-club, hot tub, sauna & massage therapist!

If you think travel to Siberia is daunting, think again. A single internal flight from Moscow is all it takes. Pri Freeride will assist with any required travel support documentation.

See the Pri Freeride Cat Ski Package Tour Listing for more detailed information and booking.

We hear and see so many great stories about a week with Pri Freeride and have been trying to visit for the last few years. Covid and other distractions have prevented it! However, the Powderhounds will endeavour to review Pri Freeride in the coming season. Cant wait......

Where is Pri Freeride Russia?

Pri Freeride is in the remote heart of Siberia, based in the tiny village of Priiskovy (or Priiskovoye or Priiskovoy!). Priiskovy is located near the Kuznetskiy Alatau mountains (& nature reserve) a paltry 3,200km east of Moscow & 2,600km northwest of Beijing! Now that's an exotic ski destination.

The vast distances are such that transport options are limited to flights into the closest major city of Krasnoyarsk, a metropolis of over 1 million people. Surrounded by natural landscapes, Krasnoyarsk is feted as the most beautiful of all the Siberian cities (not sure what the relativities of that are!). It is also an important junction on the infamous Trans-Siberia Railway.

Flights into Krasnoyarsk (or Yemelyanovo) Airport

The Krasnoyarsk (or Yemelyanovo) Airport (KJA) is a reasonably modern facility, 41km by road north east of Krasnoyarsk, but thankfully on the road to Priiskovy. The journey from the airport to Pri Freeride is a mere 400km (5-6hr) drive!

Flights from worldwide origins to Krasnoyarsk are all via the two Moscow airports or the large Siberian city of Novosibirsk. From the Americas & Europe, direct flights tend to arrive in Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO) before connecting with morning flights to Krasnoyarsk. From Asia & Oceania it is possible to fly via China to Novosibirsk's Tolmachevo International Airport (OVB) & then catch an early flight to KJA. Alternatively, flights from Asia & Oceania can go via the middle eastern Emirates airports to the second Moscow airport called Domodedovo Airport (DME) & then connect to KJA.

Airport Transfers

Airport transfers to Priiskovy are included in every Pri Freeride cat ski package. Transport is in modern Mercedes minibuses with ample space for ski equipment & luggage in towed trailers. Pick up times in Krasnoyarsk airport are on the Sunday mornings at 10am to meet the morning flight in from Moscow. The journey has as many stops as required to make the long transfer a pleasant introduction to the untamed beauty of Siberian landscape.

Long trip, but so worth it. 6 hours flight overnight to Krasnoyarsk from Moscow and then 6 hour minibus transfer to Priiskovvy. Lodge is an old hospital with capacity of 30-40 guests. In total three cats that took skiers to the mountain. Only one guide per cat and the groups went to different places. Other guests are mostly Russian snowboarders, seems like snowboarding is still popular in Russia. When we arrived it had not been snowing for a week so the cat rides was rather long (1,5-2hrs) first days. But the snow was still good and untouched. On the third day it started snowing so the last days of our week were magical. The best snow and skiing I have ever experienced. Very light and deep powder. Waist deep the last day! Temperature was around -10 C and the Cat was warm so it was never too cold. We made about 7-10 rides a day. Every ride about 10-15 minutes so quite a lot of time spent in the Cat. Lunch was bread, different sausages, ham and cheese, tea and hot wine. Breakfasts the same but included porridge. Dinners were very Russian old style but all in all ok and eatable. The bar had beers and wines at affordable prices. Staff very friendly but spoke poor English.

Myself, girlfriend and buddy came over from Ireland and spent New Years in Priiskovy with an amazing bunch a people.
The snow was insane! Dumped nearly everyday, powder heaven!
We never ran the same line twice, even on day 6 our guide brought us to a new area. The runs are short usually between 1-1.5km. But I would take the quality over quantity anyday!
Not the steepest terrain, but if you want it the guide can find it, and some really cool natural jumps too.
The cat was a beast and the driver bulldozed his way through everything...even breaking one which we dug out, all part of the adventure!
Accomodation was perfect, way better than expected, food was good, with amazing borsch everyday for starter.
Like any trip it's the people that make it, the staff were so welcoming, and all the russian skiers staying there were brilliant fun and super generous with everything. Even the 2 English lads were alright!!
