Powder Highway EPIC Tour

Join the extended Powder Highway Epic Tour where ripping down the slopes is the main focus; riding the best lines, on the best snow, at the best resorts. Along the way you'll be taken to sample some of the best craft beer the Rockies has to offer, stopping at natural hot springs to rest tired legs, and take in the surrounding beauty of the Rockies. Your day doesn’t finish when you leave the ski hill as your guides will also take you to the best each town has to offer, engaging with locals and like minded travellers; making for a truly unique experience.

First you'll head to the lesser known Castle Mountain Resort. With amazing groomed runs, underrated tree skiing and the best fall line in the business, no matter where you ride on this hill you will always end up back at the base, making it the perfect start and great warm up for Fernie Alpine Resort.

Famous for its 5 alpine bowls and exceptional beginners area, Fernie is a winter playground for all abilities. After 2 epic days of riding at Fernie, you head deeper into the Kootenays with a quick stop at Cranbrook to have a one of a kind personal tour of a local brewery with stunning food to pair.

Rossland and Nelson are up next. Two beautiful towns, both home to amazing amazing food, beer and some of the best snow around. Nelson is home to Whitewater, averaging over 40ft of dry powder; while Rossland has Red Mountain, the last great and unspoiled resort! After 4 days spent between the two resorts/towns, your next day is spent relaxing while driving to Revelstoke. Along the way you stop at Hayclon Hot Springs to benefit from the natural healing waters of some of BC's best natural hot springs.

Your next 2 days are spent witnessing the epicness of Revelstoke Mountain Resort. Home to North America’s largest vertical of 1,713m, there is no shortage of big time riders here. After 2 leg burning days in Revy you head over Rogers Pass to Golden. Home to Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, where there is no shortage of steeeeep chutes and powder to explore for a day or two. The only thing more impressive than the riding here, are the epic 360 degree views at the top.

From here the group will head to iconic Banff to hit the slopes of Lake Louise before one last day of the tour where you can choose to go dog sledding, 24km roller coaster ride with Snowy Owl Sled Dog Tours, the best way to finish such an epic journey.

Who Can Join This tour?

Solo travellers, couples or small groups can join this tour. You might be a solo traveller looking for people to ride with. You might be a couple or small group who want to join a larger group, meaning when you hit the slopes no one is holding you back resulting in maximum enjoyment. Maybe one member of a couple doesn’t really ski/board but still want to join as there are other optional activities and sightseeing options.

You can even be a private group and book the whole tour out, with a minimum of 10 people required for set date tours. A maximum of 14 guests per tour.

Custom tours may also be booked for groups as small as 4, with differing prices and dates to suit. Enquire here for a custom private group tour

Ability Levels

The tour is best suited to intermediate, advanced and expert riders, however beginners can also join as all resorts visited provide lessons for beginners.

All tours are designed to be able to push yourself, with rider progression assisted with the increase in resort difficulty along the way. Some coaching tips can be provided along the way from the guides/snow hosts.

All terrain explored on this tour is within resort boundaries. This is a mixture of on and off-piste. Lake Louise has the most beginner terrain available whilst Kicking Horse is one of the most challenging resorts in North America.

Guiding & Hosting

The tour is hosted for the entirety of the journey. The tour has a max of 14 people, with 2-3 guides/hosts. This does not include local guides/hosts at each resort, who are local rippers who can help to guide you on and off the mountains. Guide duties include the following:

  • Driving you around from resort to accommodations etc
  • Guiding you off the resort and hosting you at the resort. A combo of the guides and local mountain hosts show you the parts you want to ride making sure you never miss out.
  • Photographer-  one of the guides is also a professional photographer, ensuring you get the best shots.
  • Taking you to the best hot springs and breweries along the way.

All guides/hosts required for the tour are with you the whole time, helping to lead the charge either on the hill, in the apres lounge, or even later in town.

You can choose to ski/board with your guide/host and the rest of the group or by yourself at any time.

The tour officially starts & ends in Calgary (pick-up is from airport or hotel). Pick-up/drop-off can also be arranged in Banff/Canmore.

DAY 1 - Castle Mountain, AB/ Fernie, BC (Ski day 1)

Depart Calgary early with the aim to have you at Castle Mountain Resort around 10-11am. This is to make sure you make the most out of your first day hitting the slopes. Castle is a lesser known resort which means virtually no people to contend with. Home to dry powder, amazing fall line and small town hospitality.

Depart for Fernie, where you will be staying the night and riding the next day. Downtown accommodations ensure the best local options for food and drinks.

DAY 2 - Fernie, BC (Ski day 2)

Today is a great opportunity to really build your confidence up. Your second day of riding and 1st day at Fernie. When your legs have had enough, go and soak in one of the hot tubs or pools that the hotel has on offer. Back sore?? How about a massage?! This is your final night in Fernie, so you can start at the brewery and go from there.

DAY 3 - Fernie/Nelson, BC (Free Day)

Today is your first free day to decide what you want to do! Choose from a large selection of on mountain activities ranging from fat biking to cross country skiing. There is always the option of hitting up the resort again. Explore the 5 alpine bowls this epic place has to offer.

The plan is to depart Fernie mid afternoon to arrive at Nelson at a reasonable time. It's about a 4 hr trip with a couple of stops along the way. Nelson will be your home for the next 4 nights. This beautiful town is home to amazing food, culture and a very under-rated resort called Whitewater. Your hotel is right on main street meaning a short walk will bring you to a wide selection of restaurants, cocktail bars and craft breweries.

DAY 4 - Nelson, BC (Ski Day 3)

After a hearty cooked breakfast at your hotel, you experience Whitewater. This small little ski resort is anything but, if size was determined by its snow fall. It averages over 40ft of snow a year! The runs here are shorter, but that just means you get to do more of them. Amazing snow and some of the best natural features a ski hill has to offer. The food at the resort is also world class, with Whitewater Café even having its own bestselling cook book.

Back in Nelson after some shower and hot tub action, you can head into town to experience the amazing food this cute little town has to offer. Join your hosts for dinner or explore by yourself. One suggestion is Cantina, for tacos and margaritas. Backroads and Torchlights are 2 of the local breweries your host will show you.

DAY 5 - Rossland, BC (Ski Day 4)

Voted the #1 ski town in North America, today is your chance to see why. It is all here. Kids ski to school while throwing back flips over their teacher’s cars. Olympians have been born and raised here. 4200 acres of pristine skiing. Called ‘the last great, unspoiled resort’. So amazing it has become legend. Some of the best glades in the North America, as well as 360 degree skiing from the top. The only problem you will face is leaving this rad resort!

DAY 6 - Nelson, BC (Free Day)

Today is up to you. Ride either Whitewater or Red again, take a rest day or maybe even cat-skiing. The team at Big Red Cats and Valhalla are two local companies that do day trips. We suggest if you are interested in this, to pre-book well ahead of time.

DAY 7 - Nelson/Revelstoke, BC (Hot Springs)

Have a sleep in or explore this beautiful little town before the group departs for Revelstoke. Depending on the weather, it could be a great opportunity to even take a scenic flight over the Valhallas and along Kootenay Lake. On the drive to Revelstoke, you'll stop at Halcyon Hot Springs which is a good chance to rest your legs in the healing waters. Enjoy the scenic drive through the mountains before arriving in Revelstoke.

You'll stay here for 2 nights at the Valley Retreat, an amazing Bed n Breakfast right at the base of the hill and the perfect place to rest up for tomorrow. Revelstoke is huge and fast becoming the adventure capital of Canada.

DAY 8 - Revelstoke, BC (Ski Day 5)

Revelstoke Mountain Resort is on the menu today. The biggest vertical in North America (1,713m), 3,121 acres (only 7% beginner sorry, but you are ready!), 4 alpine bowls and a 15.2km run. This place is fast getting a reputation as a dream destination. On powder days you will see locals lining up at 7am to get first tracks, while cooking their breakfast in line over camp stoves. When you see this happening, you know it must be good. The terrain is hard to beat, giving you runs that would compete with most available at cat-skiing operations. Let one of the local snow hosts show you those secret stashes of snow or give you the tips you need to conquer this behemoth. When you can't ride anymore, apres drinks are a must at the Village Idiot in town, giving you a chance to socialize with locals or maybe even bump into some pros that are filming in the region.

DAY 9 - Revelstoke/Golden, BC (Free Day)

Today you can decide what to do. Revelstoke is the perfect place for it as there are so many options when it comes to winter activities! Go snowmobiling in some of the best terrain available anywhere. Go cat-skiing, with transport offered from the resort. If you are feeling extra adventurous your host can even sort out a day of heli-skiing for you. Too much energy? How about some back country skiing and tour up Roger Pass? Or you can come out and conquer the mountain with your hosts again. Whatever you do just make sure its epic!!

The van will drive over Rogers Pass for Golden this evening. For the next two nights you will be staying at Homelodge, a beautiful ranch style BnB where the group will have the whole place exclusively.

Some members of the tour will be leaving here as they opted for the shorter 9 day option.

DAY 10 - Golden, BC (Ski Day 6)

Kicking Horse is the powder capital of Canada. Steep and deep, this is the perfect location to see how far you have progressed. They don’t get much bigger than this! If you can stop skiing or snowboarding long enough, you can enjoy lunch in the highest restaurant in the country. The views will not disappoint. A maple bacon caesar or a pulled pork poutine are local favorites! DAY 11 - Golden, BC/Banff, AB (Free Day) Another you day. If you want to head back to Kicking Horse and try and wrangle one of their many gnarly chutes, we will be more than happy to take you. You can also try your hand at some snowmobiling or even just sleep in and take advantage of the beautiful location of Home Lodge. At the end of the day we depart for Banff. With a possible stop at Lake Louise for some pictures. We will be staying right on the main strip of Banff, allowing you to take advantage of a bustling night life with over 100 restaurants, bars and clubs to choose from you can’t go wrong. DAY 12 (Ride Lake Louise) Wake up! This is your last day riding! Lake Louise is the perfect place for it. With world class riding and facilities this place will surely be hard to leave. Tonight we have our last dinner together, we better make it a good one. The first round of drinks is on Mountain Movements to say thanks for making the trip so enjoyable. DAY 13 (Free Day) – Departure Today is up to you. Its your final day so make it count. Dogsledding is our number 1 suggestion as the local company is the best in the business. Maybe ride a local hill like Norquay or Sunshine village. Banff is also a hot spot for shopping so you may want to buy some gifts for back home. You may wish to continue west and venture to the coast or even Whistler. The option of joining us for the drive back to Calgary is available at a small additional fee. You may even want to join our 7 day Powder Highway tour which departs from Calgary in 4 days. All arrangements can easily made right up until departure. Whatever your plans, we are more than happy to accommodate for. The tour is over but the journey may go on. Allow us to provide a complimentary shuttle to the airport. If you want to stay in the Banff area longer we can help sort out accommodations and lift passes etc. Even maybe a guide for the next couple of days if possible! You can even jump on one of our 8 day tours for a bit more riding if you want or join a weekend catskiing package at Castle Mountain. Whatever your plans, Mountain Movements are more than happy to help you out.
