Tohoku Yuki Tour

The Tohoku Yuki Tours takes in many of the best ski areas in the Tohoku region in Northern Honshu. Chase the powder in the off-piste and lift-accessed side country areas. This tour gets off the beaten path where you will find plenty of untracked deep pow!

Group Type

The tour is for mixed groups so you can join as a solo traveler, a couple or small group. There is a minimum of 4 guests required for the tour to run and up to a maximum of 12.

Or if you have your own group, you can request a private customised trip.

Locations

Geto Kogen - King of snow in the Iwate prefecture, known for little crowds, lots of snow and great trees.

Tazawako - Quiet and fresh powder snow awaits you here.

Appi Kogen - A surprisingly big mountain with a long consistent fall-line. Great trees and open piste runs to let your equipment run.

Aomori Spring - Sitting at the base of Mt Iwaki in the Aomori prefecture, this resort is a freestyle focused mountain with world class halfpipe and terrain park features of all sizes, plus some amazing powder riding.

Hakkoda - Tramway to snow monster heaven and gladed bowls of powdery goodness.

Ability

You should be as a minimum, a strong intermediate or advanced (off-piste) skier or rider that is very comfortable and fluid in powder in well spaced trees and off piste terrain.

Terrain

The terrain for this tour is resort on/off-piste and lift-accessed sidecountry and backcountry.

Avalanche safety equipment is essential and must be used and is available to rent for the entire tour.

You will be trained on how to operate a transceiver, probe & shovel at the beginning of the week and this will be checked daily.

Guiding & Hosting

The tour will have 1 guide for up to 6 guests and will have a tail guide if there are 7 guests on the tour.

Guides hold the following qualifications: ARM Level 5; Stage 1 Avalanche; Level 3 Snowboard Instructor and Trainer level 2 Ski Instructor; plus they have Wilderness First Aid. The guides also have many years of experience driving in blizzard conditions in Japan and hold Heavy Vehicle License and a Hazardous Area Authority.

Itinerary

Day 1 (ARRIVAL DAY) Morioka:

Make your way from Tokyo via Shinkansen from Ueno to Morioka Station and be picked up by your guide in the 4wd van and taken to your hotel for check-in. Please plan to arrive at Morioka before 4pm (if not possible please let us know in advance). Settle in, organise your gear and be ready for the next days ahead. Grab a quick bite or catch up on some rest.

Day 2 (GETO KOGEN Warm up Day)

You are up early for breakfast then a trip to Geto Kogen where you will be shown around Geto Kogen's best mountain areas, grab some lunch at the base and make your way around the best runs whilst getting the body and mind right for the days ahead.

Day 3 (SHIZUKUISHI)

Today you will get a bit more adventurous and explore the mountain of Shizukuishi. Lunch on the mountain finish mid afternoon. Enjoy an onsen then ack to Morioka for dinner and some well needed rest.

Day 4 (SHIMOKURA)

Breakfast, and head out to Shimukura or Appi Kogen or where the best snow is on the day. Find an onsen and then head back to Morioka for dinner and some well earned rest.

Day 5 (TAZAWAKO)

Breakfast will be at 7am sharp for some side country adventures and plentiful powder runs and no crowds. Lunch on the mountain and continue until the afternoon.  

Day 6 (APPI KOGEN)

Get out and about early to get the fresh tracks. Off to Hakkoda in the afternoon.

Day 7 (HAKKODA)

Hakkoda for the last 2 days of your trip, and your most intense backcountry experience of the tour. Meet your local Japanese guide and head up the ropeway to explore the amazing terrain. Snow-shoes and hiking poles will be provided if you don’t have your own gear. Avalanche safety equipment is compulsory. After riding, have an onsen and dinner.
 

Day 8 (HAKKODA)

You will once again be guided by the local guide around different zones dependent on the snow. Or the group will head over to Aomori spring for something different if the weather doesn't play nice. Finish the day will some well earned celebration, stories, dinner and drinks.

DAY 9 (AOMORI STATION)

Check out by 8:30am and you'll be driven to head to Aomori Shinkansen Station for your journey back to Tokyo (or north to Hokkaido to connect with The Powder Triangle Tour).

All accommodations are either Japanese style/futon rooms or hotel style, and all are warm and comfortable.

Not Included
All pre-booked tours. Payment of 20% of the balance is due within 14 days of booking confirmation being sent. The balance is due in full by Dec 1 2019.

Cancellation by the customer after 20% deposit is paid will result in loss of deposit. Cancellation after full balance has been paid and prior to 30 days of commencement of tour will result in loss of 50% of total price of tour.

Changes due to conditions and weather maybe alter the itinerary to increase participant enjoyment.

Additions or upgrades outside the agreed price, will be invoiced separately.

Please note that a cancellation on medical grounds prior to the tour will require a doctor's note confirming that you are in an unfit condition to participate in any snow sport activity. If you cannot provide a doctor's note then no refund will be offered.

Tours cancelled by the operator while highly unlikely will be refunded in full.
