Utah Powder Tour
THIS TOUR IS NOT OPERATING IN 2022 DUE TO UNPREDICTABLE COVID IMPACTS HOWEVER REQUESTS FOR 2023 ARE WELCOME
This tour takes you to Utah, the powder capital of North America, the home of
TRUE blower powder and the
biggest annual snowfall in North America. Utah ski areas receive more than 500
inches/13m of the driest snow in the world (700 inches/18m fell in 2011!). The Wasatch Front mountains and
the Great Salt Lake work together to create a natural phenomenon with snow that has really low moisture content, which provides the
lightest snow in the world.
Utah skiing is something you must experience. It is a
snow making factory uniquely created by
Mother Nature. When the forecast calls for a storm, get your sleep and prepare for an epic
powder day. After a storm it is
common to receive an
additional 24-36 inches /60-90 cm of snowfall.
With 13 resorts to choose from you are bound to be spoiled. Each resort is different and has its
own unique qualities varying between luxury, budget, snow quality and quantity, terrain parks,
backcountry access, environmental consciousness and more.
The itinerary is designed to be flexible to allow your guides to chase the best snow and conditions on the day from the 13 Utah ski resorts. You will be centrally located on the edge of
Salt Lake City allowing easy access to any of the resorts with just a short drive. For example the major resorts
of
Snowbird,
Alta and
Solitude are only 20 minutes away from our hotel, located in the
Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons.
In addition to the above, DreamSki Adventures guides will be taking you to a special place not many people know about called
Powder Mountain plus the
home to the 2002 Olympic Downhill races; Snowbasin.
Powder Mountain has over 5,000 acres of terrain with areas that are never groomed and it has so few people. They have a unique area called ‘Powder Country”
that is open with some partially gladed areas that head down to a road with a shuttle that picks you
up and transports you back to the lifts. The fresh lines are incredible! They also have
another powder section where you pay a nominal amount per snow cat ride to ski virgin snow that is located
within the resort. You can do as many laps as you want. Finally they also have a 3,000 acre backcountry cat ski operation for a full day of cat skiing (optional).
The volume of snow is up there with Japan with 500+
inches annually (in 2011 Alta had 700+ inches!!)
Ability Level (Strong Intermediate to Expert)
This tour is designed for skiers who are strong on groomed snow and have a little experience off the groomed but are not intimidated by it, even if they feel they cannot ski it well. It is also for the very experienced powder skier comfortable in all snow conditions. DSA will provide both levels of experience with the appropriate challenge they seek and take you to the best spots for the best snow each day to maximize your off-piste skiing time. Through their optional “guided-coaching” approach they will help you ski the powder faster and more effortlessly no matter your level.
