SW Colorado Powder Tour

DreamSki Adventures is taking you off the beaten path in Colorado this winter. The SW Colorado Powder Tour takes you away from the highly “populated” ski areas near Denver and along the I-70 interstate. You will spend your time down into the Southwest corner of Colorado in the heart of the San Juan and Elk Mountain Ranges of the Colorado Rockies for some of the best terrain and snow in Colorado, but without all the people!

The tour starts at Telluride Ski Resort which offers a spectacular ski experience unlike any other place with its majestic 14,000 foot peaks. With legendary terrain, revered as the best of Colorado (and rated #1 overall resort in the USA by Powderhounds.com), the region receives more than 300 inches of snow each year and offers more than 2,000 skiable acres. With 300 days of sunshine annually and a lack of lift lines, Telluride offers some stunning skiing. You will stay in the historic and colorful Telluride town site, just eight blocks wide and twelve blocks long, filled with Victorian homes and shops. Situated against mining landmarks, Telluride bustles with award-winning restaurants, one-of-a-kind boutiques and lively nightlife.

You'll also visit Purgatory with its long wide groomers and tree skiing.

You will also visit another famous mining town, Crested Butte, well known for extreme ski terrain, extreme friendliness, and extremely laid back culture. Crested Butte is close to Aspen Colorado as the crow flies, but in the glitz and glamour department, Crested Butte is far away. It has no major aspirations to be like Aspen or other upscale ski towns. Crested Butte prides itself on being “real” and down to earth; the sort of place where a ski bum could get very comfortable. The historic Victorian town has a population of only 1,700 people, and the colourful buildings look like they’re from a western movie set. The town is sometimes labelled as the last real Colorado ski town. It’s a reminder of what some of the other Colorado ski towns used to be like before the developers arrived.

You will also venture to an unheard of gem called Monarch Mountain with its abundant natural snow (350 + in.) and friendly people. This area is smaller at 1000 acres but offers another 130 acres of expert terrain that is only accessible by hiking. This laid back ski area will take you back in time with no crowds and fixed grip chairs and a chance for some great fresh tracks.

Lastly you'll be venturing to the highest ski area in North America, Silverton Mountain. Imagine a place where the average total snowfall of over 400" exceeds the amount of daily visitors! Advanced and expert only riding, no groomers, no clear-cut runs and a real mountain experience with plenty of adventure on tap. All thrills no frills starting at the base elevation of 10,400 ft / 3150 m and rising to the top elevation of 13,487 ft / 4,100 m. There is one chairlift that takes you into a high alpine environment surrounded by amazing ski lines in every direction. The terrain is entirely for the advanced and expert skier and those who enjoy adventure. Silverton Mountain operates in a unique one of a kind fashion where they provide guided skiing only!

DreamSki Adventures chooses its destinations based on the best skiing not the best marketed skiing, which is usually off the beaten track. We choose destinations known for quality of snow and fewer people in order to experience as much fresh snow as possible. When you are spending your ski holiday money you should have unique destinations with good probabilities of great snow conditions to get the most out of your valuable time and money. The SW Colorado Powder Tour delivers this in spades.

South West Colorado Powder Tour Itinerary

Day 1 (Feb 18)

Arrival day into Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ) where you will be met by your DreamSki guides and join your fellow powder hounds. You will travel from here to Telluride Ski Resort to start the SW Colorado Powder Tour. Telluride is a historical mining town with lots of sights and sounds to discover. You will have today to settle in and explore the famous town site before the skiing starts.

Day 2-4

Three days skiing at Telluride Mountain Resort to explore its 2000+ acres of varying terrain from steep narrow chutes to long wide groomers for ripping. It averages over 300 inches of snow and is never crowded and rarely has a lift line. Some great areas can be had with short hikes for the more adventurous. After the last afternoon of skiing the group will make the trip over to the high altitude rustic mining town of Silverton through some stunning mountain passes and their towering red rock walls.

Day 5

After a good night’s sleep at 9300 ft / 2820m you will be acclimatized to the thin air. The group will head down the road 40 minutes to enjoy a day of skiing at Purgatory Resort with its unique blend of long wide groomers to rip on, and its steep tree skiing to prepare you for the next day’s skiing adventure!

Day 6

Get ready for the most original ski area concept and skier experience in North America. Silverton Mountain offers you small group guided skiing at 13,487 ft / 4,085m with just one ski lift up and then all kinds of lines through untouched raw mountain terrain! You must have full safety gear and be guided by a Silverton guide who will take you to the best lines. Short hikes will get you to more great stuff. You will then spend the last night in Silverton celebrating a most memorable day.

Day 7

A well deserved travel day to rest the legs as you make your way to Crested Butte, visiting historical sights of the Old West along the way. Once there you will have the rest of the day to wander through the town of Crested Butte, where they have preserved this charming mining town’s heritage unlike any other. The building and streets are 100% authentic and a rainbow of bright colors and unique designs from its mining heyday. You will have the opportunity to visit a spa and have a massage to ready yourself for the next leg of skiing.

Day 8-11

Three days of skiing at Crested Butte Mountain Resort and one day at Monarch Mountain. Crested Butte has a natural character that is distinctive and exhilarating, from abundant advanced cruisers to famous extreme lines, adding up to being rated one of the top 15 resorts in North America by Ski Magazine’s reader survey. You will explore all the nooks and crannies here for the best snow and adventure! During your stay you will make a day trip to ski Monarch Mountain with its abundant snow (350+ inches) due to its location benefiting from storms from both the Pacific Northwest and Southwest. The group will take advantage of its 130 acres of “hike to terrain” for more fresh tracks!
