Kashmir Heliski India
Heli skiing anywhere in the world is fabulous, but heli skiing in India with Kashmir Heliski is particularly spicy. India is home to more than one billion people and is the 2nd most populous country in the world. But high up in the Himalayas in the Kashmir region, crowds are definitely not a problem. In this remote part of the world you only have to share the mountains, the vast backcountry and all that powder with a small group of people. This India heli skiing is small group heli skiing, with 4 guests and one guide per group, and two to three groups sharing a helicopter.
Kashmir Heliski is based in the ski village of
Gulmarg which offers amazing lift-assisted backcountry terrain, whilst the heli skiing offers the opportunity to get further afield to higher and more varied untracked lines.
This Gulmarg heli skiing outfit offers a range of
multi-day packages that vary depending on how much of an appetite you have for curry powder. You can also mix in some guided backcountry touring off the gondola too (see the
Gulmarg skiing page for information on the gondola served terrain).
Single day heli skiing packages are also an option.
Kashmir Heliski has been operating since 2011 and utilise AS350B3e helicopter which are the right tool for flying at these high elevations on craggy peaks. The pilots are mostly Swiss and highly experienced with high altitude terrain and during summer they work search and rescue operations around Mt Everest. The guides are a mix of international and locals guides, with a wealth of experience guiding globally and in the Himalaya.
With Kashmir Heliski, you'll not only get the awesome heli skiing experience in big mountains, but you'll also get to experience the intrigue of Kashmir. Just being in Gulmarg offers a culturally enriching experience, and each of the multi-day packages includes a night stay on a Kashmiri houseboat in
Srinagar. And you may also choose to spend some time before or after your Kashmir trip to experience the buzz of
Delhi or other parts of
India.
Down Days
As to be expected with heli skiing, down days do happen when big storms prevent the helicopter from flying, and one of the advantages of heli skiing in Gulmarg is that the back up options don’t just involve lying around reading a book. The guides will take you backcountry skiing off the gondola if it’s operating, or from Gulmarg (elevation 2,600m) they can take you tree skiing down to villages such as Baba Reshi, Tangmarg, and Drung which are at about 2,000m of elevation where you’ll get a unique cultural experience. Using 4WD vehicles, drivers will take you back up the hill to Gulmarg. It’s sort of like having snowcat skiing back-up but more culturally interesting.
